Are you an experienced Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead who enjoys remaining hands-on while guiding teams and shaping technical solutions? A leading specialist technical consultancy is looking for a Software Technical Lead to join a live Central Government project. You will work within a collaborative Agile team, building bespoke software that solves complex operational challenges.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading and supporting a team of software engineers
- Designing, developing and testing bespoke software solutions
- Providing technical direction and communicating clearly with clients
- Producing solution architectures and technical designs
- Building full-stack applications using Java, JavaScript, React and TypeScript
- Designing and deploying cloud-based solutions, primarily using AWS
- Creating continuous integration pipelines using tools such as GitLab
- Working across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through to delivery, support and maintenance
- Deploying software into public and private cloud environments
- Promoting high standards of software quality, security and engineering practice
What we're looking for:
- You will be a hands-on Senior Engineer or Technical Lead with:
- Strong commercial Java development experience
- Good experience designing and building solutions in AWS
- Full-stack development experience using JavaScript, React and TypeScript
- Previous experience leading engineers or providing technical direction
- An understanding of software architecture and technical design
- Experience working throughout the full software development lifecycle
- Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills
- The ability to understand customer challenges and translate them into practical technical solutions
- Consultancy experience would be helpful, but it is not essential.

Due to the sensitive nature of the projects, the successful candidate must be able to obtain high-level UK security clearance. To be eligible, you must:
- Be a British citizen
- Have lived permanently in the UK for the last five years
