Company Overview:

Our client is currently looking for an Automatic Door, Gates & Barriers Engineer to join their highly valued team on a full-time, permanent basis. With strong growth across the region and increasing demand for automated access solutions, they are expanding their engineering team to support both new and existing commercial contracts. This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer with experience across automated gates, barriers, bollards, roller shutters and automatic door systems who takes pride in delivering first-time fixes and high-quality workmanship.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Install, service, maintain, fault-find and repair automated gates, barriers, bollards, roller shutters and automatic door systems
  • Work on sliding, swing and cantilever gate systems across commercial and residential sites
  • Carry out electrical, mechanical and control system fault finding and diagnostics
  • Complete installations, upgrades and commissioning in line with manufacturer specifications
  • Conduct customer handovers and ensure systems are fully operational and compliant
  • Identify root causes of faults and implement permanent, long-term fixes
  • Work in line with BS EN 12453 and BS EN 12445 along with HSE guidance
  • Complete risk assessments where required on site
  • Ensure all safety systems are correctly installed and functioning (photocells, safety edges, force testing, emergency releases and more)
  • Stop and report any unsafe systems or installations immediately
  • Participate in a structured on-call rota for emergency breakdown cover
  • Attend breakdowns with a strong focus on first-time fixes
  • Support key maintenance contracts to maintain uptime and reliability
  • Reduce repeat visits and ongoing call backs through effective fault resolution
  • Complete job reports, service documentation and certification accurately
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding findings and works completed
  • Feed back recurring faults, product issues or training needs to the office
  • Support wider engineering team with technical input when required

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven experience working on automated gates, barriers or access control systems
  • Strong understanding of control panels such as NICE, FAAC, CAME, BFT or equivalent
  • Confident electrical fault finding skills (single phase essential, three phase preferred)
  • Strong mechanical and practical engineering ability
  • Ability to work independently and take full ownership of jobs
  • Proven track record of reducing repeat faults and call backs
  • Full UK driving licence (Essential)
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures on site

Qualifications:

  • Essential or willing to work towards: Gate Safe (Aware or Approved), DHF or equivalent safety training, Electrical qualification (NVQ / City & Guilds preferred)
  • Desirable: IPAF, PASMA, CSCS, Manufacturer training certificates (NICE, FAAC, CAME, BFT etc.)

Successful candidates will be required to undergo police clearance, DBS checks and security vetting.
