About the Role

Our client is currently recruiting for an experienced Fire Alarm & AOV Engineer to join a growing team responsible for maintaining and servicing fire alarm & AOV systems across several large residential developments throughout East London and Southwest London. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with sprinkler system experience who is looking for a long-term position with the potential to transition to PAYE employment after an initial 6-month CIS contract period.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in fire alarm systems, including servicing, maintenance and fault finding. Experience with AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems is highly desirable, although training may be available for candidates with strong fire alarm experience. There will also be opportunities to work on access control and intercom systems where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on fire alarm systems
  • Service and maintain AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems
  • Service and maintain access control systems and intercom systems
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs across all associated systems
  • Complete remedial works identified during maintenance visits
  • Participate in the on-call rota (1 week in every 3) once fully established within the role

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience installing, servicing, or maintaining fire alarm systems
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Good understanding of fire safety regulations and industry standards
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively

Desirable

  • Experience with AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems
  • Experience working with access control systems
  • Experience servicing intercom systems
  • FIA, BS5839 or other relevant fire industry qualifications
  • Experience within residential or commercial property environments

Training courses may be available for candidates who have strong fire alarm experience but require additional AOV training.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
  • Friday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
  • 44 hours per week

Package

  • £24 - £28 per hour (depending on experience)
  • £160 monthly travel allowance

All new engineers join initially as self-employed Sole Traders under a CIS arrangement. Please note:

  • Limited companies are not accepted
  • Candidates must be willing to work as a Sole Trader for the initial 6-month period
  • After 6 months, engineers will have the option to move onto PAYE employment or remain as a Sole Trader
