This is a Finance Manager opportunity for someone ready to take broader ownership of a growing Finance function. You may already be a Finance Manager, or you could be a strong Management Accountant ready for your next step. Youll work closely with the Head of Finance, taking increasing responsibility for management accounts, month-end reporting, financial controls, audit support and the day-to-day running of Finance. Youll need strong accounting fundamentals and the confidence to investigate problems, challenge numbers and see issues through to resolution.
Before you apply: the essentials
- Strong hands-on experience preparing monthly management accounts, including month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience of budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, with a good understanding of financial controls.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse financial information, identify unusual or incorrect items and investigate them.
- ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified, part-qualified or finalist, or substantial relevant management accounting experience as a qualified-by-experience candidate.
- Confidence communicating financial information to non-Finance colleagues while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Confident working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to learn and adapt to other software and digital systems.
What youll own
- Youll take ownership of the Groups monthly management accounts process, coordinating the month-end timetable and making sure reporting is accurate and delivered on time.
- Youll prepare and review P&L and balance sheet reporting, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Youll investigate unexpected balances and variances, maintain clear audit trails and make sure management accounts are ready for Head of Finance review.
- Youll support budgeting and reforecasting, working directly with operational managers and budget holders to understand and challenge assumptions.
- Youll also contribute to cash flow forecasting, financial planning and modelling for bids where required.
- Across the Group, youll help maintain accurate intercompany accounting and consistent financial processes and controls, including supporting the integration of new businesses.
More than month-end
This role gives you the opportunity to broaden your Finance management and business partnering experience. Youll review work completed by colleagues, provide guidance and help coordinate priorities during busy reporting periods. Youll also work with operational managers, helping them understand their financial performance rather than simply sending them numbers. Audit and compliance form part of the role too. Youll coordinate information for the year-end statutory audit, handle routine auditor queries and support grant and funder audits, VAT returns and other financial compliance requirements. Youll be expected to spot opportunities to improve processes, reporting, controls and automation as the organisation grows.
What success looks like
Youll increasingly become a trusted owner of the day-to-day management accounting function. Month-end runs to timetable, reconciliations stand up to scrutiny and managers receive accurate, useful financial information. Youll investigate and resolve issues rather than simply escalating them, support the development of the Finance team and create capacity for the Head of Finance to focus on strategic financial management and business partnering.
Useful, but not essential
- Experience in a multi-entity organisation, including statutory or grant audit support.
- Experience reviewing or supervising work completed by other Finance team members.
- Experience improving Finance systems or processes within a growing or changing organisation.
What you will get
You will receive structured training, management support and regular feedback, alongside:
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Pension contributions
- Employee ownership share scheme
- Health and wellbeing support
- Gym discounts
- Development opportunities
Some benefits depend on eligibility or length of service.
