We are looking for a Freelance Essential Skills Literacy Tutor to deliver high-quality, accredited literacy programmes that prepare learners for work, training and further study. The Standard We Work To
We are looking for someone who can evidence:
- Teaching qualification: A recognised teaching qualification in line with ES Circular 01/12.
- Accredited delivery experience: Experience delivering Essential Skills Literacy / Communication or similar accredited qualifications.
- Professional structure: Clear lesson planning, strong classroom management and consistent record-keeping.
- Communication confidence: Ability to improve learners' written and verbal communication for real-world application.
- Learner engagement: Ability to build trust and confidence while maintaining clear standards.
- Safeguarding awareness: Commitment to safeguarding, compliance and accurate documentation.
- Essential qualifications: GCSE (A–C) or equivalent in English (or Level 2 Essential Skills Communication)
A Day in the Life of a Freelance Literacy Tutor
A typical teaching day begins with reviewing lesson objectives aligned to the Essential Skills framework. In the classroom, I set expectations clearly and connect literacy skills to real-life workplace situations, such as professional emails, form completion or interview communication. I monitor engagement and adapt delivery for learners with different starting points, while maintaining standards and preparing them for assessment. After the session, I update learner records, review progress and prepare the next lesson carefully. The role requires organisation, consistency and energy. It is rewarding to see learners grow in confidence and capability.
