The predicted salary is between 32000 - 48000 £ per year.

Contract: Fixed Term – 1 year (extension expected but subject to funding)

Hours: 14 Hours per week (option to split over 3 days)

Salary: £32,000 FTE pro rata (£12,800 pa for pro rata for 2 days / 14 hours)

Place of work: Office based with some hybrid working.

The Finance Officer will play a key role in ensuring the effective, accurate, and compliant financial management of Held in Our Hearts. Working closely with, and under the guidance of, the Finance Director, the postholder will manage day-to-day financial operations and maintain robust financial records that support the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives.

  • Financial Administration and Record Keeping: You will maintain accurate financial records using SAGE or similar accounting software, processing income and expenditure and ensuring correct coding to budget lines and funding streams. You will reconcile bank accounts and credit cards, oversee staff and volunteer expenses, and support the preparation and submission of Gift Aid claims. You will also maintain accurate financial data within the organisation’s CRM system (Beacon), including grant awards, budgets, income, and financial reports.
  • Payroll and Payments: You will manage supplier invoices and payment runs in line with authorisation procedures and maintain accurate records of staff costs, pensions, and payroll-related information.
  • Budgeting and Reporting: Working with the Finance Director, COO, and Senior Leadership Team, you will support annual budgets and forecasts. You will prepare monthly management accounts and variance reports for the Finance Director, CEO, and Board, assist with funder reporting, and support year-end processes, including preparation for audit or independent examination.
  • Compliance and Systems: You will support compliance with financial policies, procedures, and charity finance regulations, and contribute to the development of effective financial systems and controls in collaboration with the Finance Director, COO, and auditors.

You will have experience in a finance or bookkeeping role, ideally within a charity, third sector, or small organisation, with strong bookkeeping skills and experience using accounting software and CRM systems. You will understand restricted and unrestricted income, Gift Aid, budgets, and routine financial reporting. You will have excellent attention to detail, be able to manage competing priorities, work independently, and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues. Knowledge of charity accounting, audit support, payroll administration, and charity-sector finance software is desirable. An AAT qualification or equivalent experience, experience producing funder financial reports, and an understanding of financial controls within small organisations would be advantageous.
