Gers Power LTD is a leading power system consultancy group delivering specialist engineering services across the electricity networks sector. We support clients with grid connection, power system studies, protection & control, testing, commissioning, and operational support.

We are seeking a proactive and commercially driven Business Development Engineer to join our team and contribute to both technical delivery and commercial growth initiatives. As a Business Development Engineer, you will support the delivery of power system consultancy projects while also contributing to business growth activities. This role offers a blend of technical and commercial responsibilities, ideal for candidates who enjoy working on complex engineering challenges and engaging with clients.

You will be involved in:

  • Supporting the preparation of bids and proposals
  • Contributing to client relationship development and business growth
  • Assisting with technical support, training, and advisory services
  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders
  • Leading the full sales cycle from initial contact through to negotiation and contract close
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure solutions are commercially viable and deliverable
  • Monitoring market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities
  • Providing accurate sales forecasting and reporting to senior management
  • Processing legal paperwork and contracts
  • Building and converting opportunities into long-term partnerships

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, target, and win new business opportunities within the energy sector
  • Develop and execute a structured business development strategy from the ground up
  • Build a strong pipeline of prospects through market research, networking, and direct outreach

The following capabilities and experience are desired for this role:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience within the electricity networks industry in the UK/Europe
  • Degree/Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or similar
  • Demonstrated success in B2B technical sales, achieving or exceeding revenue targets and managing complex sales cycles
  • Experience leading the technical and commercial response for high-stakes RFPs and tenders
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Proven experience in business development or sales within the utilities sector
  • Demonstrable success in new business generation (not account management)
  • Ability to work independently and create opportunities from a blank sheet
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Client-focused with the ability to manage and grow positive relationships with demanding clients
  • CRM mastery (Salesforce or HubSpot) for pipeline management and forecasting
  • Experience using AI-driven prospecting tools to identify and qualify new leads
  • Ability to draft precise Statements of Work (SOW) and technical service agreements
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business cases for non-technical stakeholders
  • Strategic negotiation skills with a focus on value-based pricing
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong data analytical skills
  • Excellent report writing skills

(Desired) Knowledge of UK/Ireland regulatory framework, Grid Codes and system operation

(Desired) Power systems modelling experience for load flow analysis, fault level studies, grid code compliance, transient stability, harmonic analysis, dynamic and EMT analysis, protection studies and arc flash analysis

(Desired) Experience using power system analysis tools such as NEPLAN, SKM, ETAP, PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink

(Desired) Knowledge of the US regulatory framework, Grid Codes and system operation

(Desired) Previous experience working with Transmission System Operators/Owners and/or Distribution Network Operators/Owners
