Applied Scientist – Acoustic Signatures
Hampshire
£Competitive + Bonus + Great Benefits What happens beneath the surface is rarely straightforward.
Understanding how underwater systems behave acoustically requires curiosity, scientific rigour and the ability to turn complex data into practical insight.
We're looking for an Applied Scientist to join our Acoustic Signatures team, helping us understand, model and predict the acoustic behaviour of underwater systems and environments.
This is a hands-on, varied role for someone who enjoys tackling complex real-world problems through physics, mathematics, simulation, experimentation and software development.
You'll work alongside scientists, engineers and technical specialists to investigate acoustic phenomena, develop analytical and computational models, analyse experimental data and turn scientific insight into practical engineering solutions.
Your work could span everything from fluid dynamics and acoustic propagation to simulation, predictive modelling and algorithm development, supporting the development of advanced subsea technology.
What you'll bring
You'll have a degree in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related STEM discipline, strong Python skills and a solid understanding of fluid mechanics.
Just as importantly, you'll be naturally curious, analytical and comfortable solving problems where there isn't always an obvious answer.
Experience in areas such as acoustics, sonar, numerical modelling, CFD, scientific data analysis or experimental work would be valuable, as would an MSc or Ph D and knowledge of Python and C++.
But we're interested in potential as well as experience, so if you have a strong scientific foundation and a genuine enthusiasm for applying it to challenging problems, we'd like to hear from you.
You'll need to be able to communicate your ideas clearly, whether through technical reports, presentations, code or collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Why join us?
You'll be working on technology that operates in one of the world's most demanding environments, alongside scientists and engineers tackling technically challenging problems with real-world impact.
No two projects are quite the same, giving you the opportunity to explore new ideas, develop your expertise and see your work move from scientific concept to practical application.
We offer a competitive salary, annual bonus, generous pension contribution, life assurance, professional development and training, employee assistance programme, cycle-to-work scheme and on-site parking, alongside a collaborative and innovative working environment.
If you're fascinated by physics, acoustics and scientific problem-solving, and want to apply your skills to challenging real-world problems, we'd love to hear from you.
