TUAL Technology is an innovative, VC-backed start-up based in Bicester, developing PowerUp, a high-power EV charging solution designed for grid-constrained sites. By integrating battery storage, smart energy management, and ultra-fast DC charging, TUAL delivers seamless electrification where traditional grid capacity falls short. Working with enterprise customers across Europe, TUAL is transforming the productivity and profitability of electric commercial vehicle fleets through a portfolio of intelligent, software-defined, cloud and IoT-enabled charging solutions.

TUAL is seeking a hands-on Lead Mechanical Engineer with proven experience in EV charging systems or related high-power electronics to lead the development, testing, and delivery of our advanced charging platforms. You will take ownership of mechanical architecture, thermal management, structural components, and wiring harnesses, guiding products from concept through to production. This is a key technical role in a fast-moving, VC-backed start-up, working closely with the VP Product to shape and realise high-performance charging hardware for commercial fleets.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead mechanical development of chargers, HV/LV subsystems, cooling systems, and enclosures
  • Build, test, and validate prototypes and final products against performance targets
  • Define and maintain design-for-manufacture and quality processes (DFMEA, PPAP)
  • Run the in-house build & test lab and resolve technical challenges
  • Collaborate with suppliers, partners, and internal teams to optimise manufacturability and cost
  • Lead certification, compliance, and regulatory testing
  • Mentor engineers and technicians, driving continuous improvement

Your Background

  • MEng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering
  • Significant experience in EV charging, high-power electrical systems, or energy storage hardware
  • Strong knowledge of thermal management, structural components, HV systems, and assembly processes
  • Experience with FMEA, quality planning, and testing methodologies
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and able to work autonomously in a dynamic start-up environment
  • Familiarity with fleet vehicle applications or large-scale charging infrastructure is highly advantageous
