Were seeking a Materials & Joining Specialist to define the material and joining strategies for a new generation of industrialised construction products. This is a product industrialisation role, focused on what we manufacture and how it is joined ensuring designs are structurally sound, manufacturable at scale, cost-effective, and suitable for automated or semi-automated production.
The role sits upstream of equipment selection but requires strong, practical knowledge of manufacturing and joining processes to keep product decisions industrially realistic.
Youll own the materials and joining philosophy for product families, defining:
- Materials and steel grades
- Sections and profiles
- Coatings and corrosion strategies
- Joint types, welds, and connections
Youll ensure designs work in:
- High-volume factory production
- Automated or semi-automated environments
- Real supply chains and regulatory frameworks
What Youll Do:
- Define and optimise product-level material and joining strategies
- Balance structural performance, manufacturability, cost, durability, and tolerance control
- Ensure compatibility with robotic welding, automated handling, and high-throughput production
- Challenge designs that drive distortion, excessive welding, scrap, or rework
- Apply knowledge of welding, mechanical fastening, hybrid joining, robotics, and fixturing to inform product design
- Define acceptable joining methods, testing, and qualification approaches
Who Were Looking For:
Were open to candidates from automotive, aerospace, rail, shipbuilding, defence, heavy manufacturing, structural fabrication, or energy.
You should have:
- Experience defining material or joining strategies for real, repeatable products
- Strong exposure to manufacturing environments where throughput, cost, and quality matter
- Experience working closely with production and manufacturing teams
