Mechanical Engineer – Microelectronic Products This role can be based in Milton Keynes or Great Yarmouth, or home based with willingness travel to both sites a few times a month Travel: Occasional UK and international travel Security Clearance: Full security clearance eligibility required The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the development and introduction of advanced microelectronic products for demanding oil and gas applications.

Make sure to apply quickly in order to maximise your chances of being considered for an interview Read the complete job description below.

This role combines hands-on mechanical engineering, thermal and stress analysis, and new product introduction (NPI).

You will play a key role in taking products from initial prototype through qualification and into repeatable, high-quality production.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering, manufacturing, reliability, test and quality teams, you will ensure that mechanical designs, materials, packaging and assembly processes meet demanding performance, reliability and manufacturing requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and seeing their designs progress from concept through to successful production.

Key Responsibilities Lead new product introduction activities, taking products from prototype and qualification through production release and manufacturing ramp-up.

Perform thermal and stress analysis to evaluate heat transfer, operating temperatures, thermal expansion and mechanical stresses.

Use simulation results to inform material selection, packaging design, assembly methods and product reliability.

Develop and review 3D models, engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and material specifications for microelectronic assemblies, housings and tooling.

Collaborate with electronic and reliability engineers to identify and resolve thermal and mechanical risks, including material compatibility and temperature-cycling stresses.

Lead design-for-manufacture and production-readiness reviews to ensure products are suitable for assembly, inspection and testing.

Plan and support prototype and pilot builds, using physical testing to validate simulations and resolve design or manufacturing issues.

Define manufacturing processes, tooling, work instructions and supplier requirements, maintaining configuration control and engineering change management.

Manage the transition from development into production, supporting early manufacturing until agreed quality, yield and process stability targets are achieved.

Apply structured root cause analysis and continuous improvement techniques to address technical and manufacturing challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical engineering experience.

Experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering or new product introduction, including transferring products from development into production.

Practical experience performing thermal and stress analysis and applying simulation results to engineering decisions.

Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS for 3D modelling and engineering drawings, alongside SOLIDWORKS Simulation for thermal and stress analysis.

Strong understanding of heat transfer, thermal expansion, material properties, dimensional tolerances and assembly requirements.

Experience applying design-for-manufacture and assembly principles, process validation and structured root cause analysis.

Ability to plan and support physical testing, compare results against simulation predictions and investigate discrepancies.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality and supplier teams.

Desirable Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: Microelectronics, electronic packaging or hybrid electronic assemblies.

Ceramic substrates, die attach, wire bonding or specialist electronic packaging techniques.

Finite element analysis (FEA) involving thermal stress, vibration or other mechanical loading.

Product development for high-temperature, harsh-environment or safety-critical applications.

Process FMEA, control plans, process qualification and manufacturing-readiness assessments.

Specialist materials, adhesives, joining techniques or sealed electronic packages.

Additional Requirements Must be eligible to obtain full security clearance.

Willingness to undertake occasional travel to facilities, suppliers, customers and external test laboratories.

Why Apply? This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging microelectronic products where mechanical design, thermal performance and manufacturing reliability are critical to success.

You will have the opportunity to influence product design, solve complex engineering problems and play a key role in bringing advanced products into production within a demanding industrial environment.

Interested? xiskglj If you have a strong background in mechanical engineering, thermal and stress analysis, and new product introduction, we would welcome your application.
