An established and growing engineering consultancy based in West Sussex is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex, high-value engineering projects across regulated and high-performance industries. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, this role offers the opportunity to contribute hands-on technical expertise while supporting projects from early concept through to manufacture and validation. It is well suited to an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, ownership of work packages, and close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of engineering projects, acting as a technical interface between design, project delivery, suppliers, and customers. You will take responsibility for defined work packages or smaller projects, ensuring technical, commercial, and quality requirements are met.
Key responsibilities include:- Owning and delivering mechanical engineering work packages from concept through manufacture and validation
- Providing hands-on mechanical design support when required, including CAD modelling, detailing, and technical problem-solving
- Developing and maintaining project plans, including milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and resource requirements
- Translating customer and project requirements into practical, robust engineering solutions
- Coordinating design activities within multidisciplinary project teams to meet programme milestones
- Producing and reviewing CAD models, detailed drawings, and supporting technical documentation
- Supporting and participating in design reviews, ensuring risks, assumptions, and actions are clearly managed
- Liaising with internal teams, suppliers, and clients throughout the project lifecycle
- Managing time, priorities, and technical inputs to support delivery to schedule and budget
- Supporting technical discussions with customers and external partners as required
- Ensuring engineering activities comply with relevant industry standards and internal quality processes
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (2:1 or above) or equivalent qualification; relevant industry experience will also be considered
- Proven project engineering experience within sectors such as automotive, aerospace, or defence
- Good working knowledge of mechanisms and materials
- Strong ability to apply engineering first principles to complex technical challenges
- Experience using Catia V5 and/or 3DEXPERIENCE is desirable but not essential
- Collaborative and team-focused approach
- Clear and confident communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proactive, well-organised, and comfortable taking ownership of tasks
- Solutions-focused with the flexibility to adapt to changing project needs
- Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering to customer expectations
