About Futraheat

We are an early-stage, cleantech company formed to commercialise our novel, patented compressor technology. Our vision is to make a meaningful dent in global CO2 emissions by pioneering the electrification of industry with disruptive heat pump products. Our core technology is a turbo-compressor - simplified. It operates at greatly reduced speeds without oil, yielding lower manufacturing, operating and maintenance costs. We have developed a full-scale industrial heat pump pre-production product that was pilot tested at an industrial site throughout 2025. Recently Series A investment has been secured to scale the business and deliver further high temperature heat pump products to industrial end users.

About the Position

We are looking for a full-time Test and Development Engineer with a passion for bringing new technology to life and proving design intent. Practical, hands-on experience in the build of mechanical assemblies and electrical systems is essential coupled with an attentive mindset to process data and report findings. A working knowledge of motors, compressors, and industrial heating/cooling systems is desirable.

As an early-stage company our roles are broad, will evolve as we progress from core technology to mature product, and will suit those who are flexible, creative and proactive.

Some of the capabilities and duties required include:

  • Hands-on testing and validation of design and analysis work within the on-site test facility including the specification, design (CAD experience) and build of test rigs and fixtures to support your work
  • Developing and wiring data acquisition and control systems to operate the test facility and products
  • Calibrating equipment, maintaining records and adhering to health and safety standards
  • Management of the on-site test facility, risk assessments and implementing test procedures
  • Scientific and open-minded approach, sensitive to machine/system condition and behaviour, logging of detailed findings, monitoring test equipment and recording of anomalies or faults
  • Attention to detail and patience to post process data and identify trends in results is essential
  • Problem solving under pressure, and ability to conduct root cause investigations and report
  • Support and perform product qualification testing including CE, UKCA, UL etc. as required
  • Contribute to R&D activities and product development, e.g. new analytical tools and FMEA etc.
  • Strong communication skills to produce clear and professional reports and O&M manuals
  • Commissioning and testing of new products at industrial sites requiring periods of off-site working
  • Experience working with high-speed rotating machinery and complex systems is desirable

Systems we use include SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, MATLAB and LabVIEW.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or a closely related discipline. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience. We will support technical, professional and personal development on the job and externally, as well as those engineers seeking/maintaining Chartership.
