An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Diagnostics Technician to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing environment focused on RF and electronic systems. This role offers the chance to work on sophisticated RF transmit and receive modules and complex electronic assemblies, supporting product quality, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for component-level fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and driving improvements in manufacturing yield, test efficiency, and product performance. Working closely with Engineering and Operations teams, you will play a key role in identifying and resolving technical issues while contributing to ongoing process and product enhancements.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and fault-find RF transmit/receive modules and complex electronic assemblies down to component level.
- Perform detailed RF analysis using specialist test equipment including spectrum analysers, network analysers (VNA), and power meters.
- Support implementation of test setups and verification plans developed by the Test System Development team.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Analysis, and 8D to identify root causes of failures.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) through to completion, ensuring robust and sustainable solutions.
- Analyse failure trends and provide data-driven recommendations to improve product reliability and first-pass yield.
- Identify and implement Lean improvements across diagnostic processes, test methods, and workflows.
- Contribute to and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, rework, and inefficiencies.
- Review and update test procedures, work instructions, and supporting documentation.
- Support customer returns investigations and failure analysis activities.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to provide feedback on design, manufacturing, and test improvements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement across diagnostics and production functions.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- HNC/HND in Electronic Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong background in electronics diagnostics and fault finding.
- Proven ability to diagnose PCB-level faults to component level.
- Experience using modern RF test equipment such as Keysight or Rohde & Schwarz platforms.
- Good understanding of: Spectrum Analysers, Vector Network Analysers (VNA), RF Power Meters, Frequency Converters.
- Degree (BEng or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering.
- Experience with RF tuning and testing.
- Knowledge of transmit/receive modules (TRMs), radar systems, or RF subsystems.
- Experience working with chip-and-wire hybrid assemblies.
- Familiarity with LabVIEW-based test systems.
- RF testing, measurement, and calibration expertise.
- Advanced diagnostic and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and structured approach to problem solving.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Analytical thinker with a methodical approach to technical challenges.
