The Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Legal Secretary to join our Commercial Property team based in Lewes. The role would suit a legal secretary with a background in either commercial or residential property, who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and well-regarded firm. You will provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to fee earners, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of matters from instruction through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive secretarial support to the Commercial Property team
  • Help with completion statements on Excel
  • Conduct searches on Land Registry
  • Preparing and amending legal documents and correspondence
  • Complying TR1, AP1 and SDLT duties
  • Managing fee earners' diaries, appointments, and deadlines
  • Opening, maintaining, and closing client files in line with firm procedures
  • Handling client communications professionally by telephone, email, and in person
  • Assisting with document production, file management, and post-completion tasks
  • Supporting billing, invoices, time recording, and general administrative duties
  • Liaising with clients, agents, and other third parties as required

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, ideally within commercial or residential property
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident audio and copy typing skills
  • Professional and courteous communication style
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • A team-focused approach with the ability to work independently
