An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Data Product Owner to play a pivotal role in building a brand-new enterprise Data function within one of the UK's largest personal lines insurance organisations. Following a major acquisition and the integration of three well-established insurance businesses, the organisation is creating a market-leading data capability to support its future growth. This is a unique opportunity to join at the start of that journey and influence how data products are designed, delivered and scaled across the business.
Significant investment is being made in modern technology, including a market-leading core insurance platform (EIS), Azure, Databricks and AI-driven capabilities. With data at the heart of business transformation, you'll be joining an organisation recognised as one of the most advanced users of data within the UK insurance market. If you're looking for a role where you can shape strategy, influence senior stakeholders and lead the delivery of high-value data products, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact.
The Role
As Lead Data Product Owner, you'll own the strategic direction and roadmap for key data products across the organisation. Working closely with business leaders and agile delivery teams, you'll ensure data initiatives deliver measurable commercial value while supporting pricing, underwriting, claims, customer and operational decision-making. You'll also play a key leadership role within the growing Data function, helping establish product management best practice and driving successful delivery across multiple workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the vision, roadmap and delivery of strategic data products.
- Prioritise and manage a value-driven backlog across data, analytics and MI initiatives.
- Translate complex business requirements into well-defined epics, features and user stories.
- Lead Agile Scrum teams comprising Data Engineers, Analysts, QA and Technical Specialists.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions.
- Balance competing priorities, manage dependencies and remove delivery blockers.
- Drive product ownership best practice across the wider Data function.
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation and adoption of modern data technologies.
- Ensure delivery aligns with commercial objectives, customer outcomes and regulatory requirements.
About You
You'll be an experienced Product Owner with a strong background delivering data products within insurance or another highly regulated environment. You'll combine commercial awareness with technical understanding and enjoy translating business strategy into successful product delivery.
You’ll ideally have:
- Proven experience as a Lead Product Owner, Data Product Owner or Senior Product Owner.
- Previous experience within the insurance sector (personal lines experience would be highly beneficial).
- Strong understanding of data platforms, analytics, MI and modern cloud-based data solutions.
- Experience working with Azure, Databricks or similar data platforms.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior business leaders.
- Strong Agile delivery experience working with Scrum teams.
- Experience creating and managing product roadmaps and prioritised backlogs.
- Knowledge of SQL and data concepts.
- A collaborative leadership style with a passion for delivering business value through data.
Why Join?
This is far more than a BAU Product Owner role. You'll be joining during the creation of a new enterprise Data function backed by significant investment in technology, AI and cloud data platforms. The business is bringing together three major insurance operations to create one of the UK's largest personal lines insurers, providing an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of data at scale.
