The successful candidate will join the Data Intelligence team as the technical authority and strategic leader for geophysical acquisition, processing and interpretation. The role owns the technical direction, quality assurance, and future industry-leading capability development for geophysics services, ensuring robust operational delivery while driving innovation in seismic acquisition technologies, processing workflows, interpretation methodologies, and integrated geoscience solutions at Ocean Infinity. The position bridges current production needs with the future-state architecture of our geophysical data solutions, ensuring today’s data workflows are robust, scalable, and trusted while shaping next-generation solutions through automation and applied AI in partnership with our technology, digital, and software teams.

What you will do:

  • Act as Technical Authority for geophysical acquisition, processing and interpretation.
  • Be the driving force behind new software and technology developments in the geophysics data space in collaboration with our technology, digital, and software teams.
  • Lead and manage the geophysics data discipline, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and development support to geophysicists, geoscience teams, and, where relevant, partner companies.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of seismic and geophysical projects from survey design through acquisition, processing, interpretation, and ground model development.
  • Provide technical leadership across marine, transition zone, seabed, AUV, cable route, and offshore windfarm survey projects.
  • Ensure high technical standards in QC, interpretation, analysis, and reporting of geophysical survey data, and provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, and guidance to geomatics and data teams on automation-first delivery.
  • Represent the business as the technical lead for geophysics in client engagements, technical workshops, and industry forums.
  • Develop and promote the company’s technical capabilities and geophysical service offerings.
  • Collaborate with our Technology, Commercial, and Marine teams to develop, implement, and deliver new geophysical data and software solutions that enhance our technical delivery and commercial performance.
  • Support geophysical technology development activities and launch strategies in new markets, frontier areas, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead development and implementation of advanced seismic and geophysical processing workflows.
  • Provide expert support for seismic data acquisition, processing, and interpretation activities.
  • Oversee and provide expert support of ultra-high-resolution (2D/3D), sub bottom profiler (SBP), magnetometry, side-scan sonar, and electromagnetic datasets.
  • Support integration of geophysical data into geological and geotechnical ground models.
  • Drive continuous improvement of data quality, processing efficiency, and interpretation methodologies.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional integrity across the Data Intelligence function.
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation, in combination with our technology team, of AI/ML assisted geophysical workflows for seismic interpretation, anomaly detection, automated horizon and fault picking, and subsurface characterisation.
  • Drive development of processing and QC solutions using AI assisted analysis, automated data validation, and predictive processing optimisation to improve consistency, efficiency, and turnaround times.
  • Lead and steer the development of high‑quality scientific and technical papers, presentations, and publications, positioning Ocean Infinity as an industry leader through peer‑reviewed journals and world‑leading conferences.
  • Ensure all geophysical activities meet contractual, client, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Review and provide technical authority for tenders, survey specifications, methodologies, technical reports, and deliverables.
  • Support implementation of best practices, technical standards, and quality frameworks across geophysical operations.
  • Provide oversight of project risk, technical assurance, and operational performance in relation to geophysical acquisition.

Who you are:

  • A passion for the subject, technical excellence, and innovation to drive industry-wide change in geophysical data delivery and insight.
  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD preferred) in geophysics or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in geophysical data acquisition and processing.
  • Strong expertise in seismic acquisition, imaging, and processing workflows.
  • Experience across marine, transition zone, seabed, offshore windfarm, and cable route surveys.
  • Experience with geo-software including Oasis montaj, RadExPro, Reveal, DUG, Kingdom Suite, SoanrWiz, ArcMap, and QGIS.
  • Excellent understanding of acquisition technologies, recording systems, and source technologies.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring multidisciplinary geoscience teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness and client-facing experience.
  • Experience within the oil and gas and renewables sectors.
  • Programming and high-performance computing knowledge.

Desirable:

  • Worldwide project and operational experience.
  • A track record of developing and utilising new tools and products for innovative geophysical data processing and delivery.
  • A strong knowledge of AI/ML techniques applied to geophysical datasets.
  • Synthetic CPT/Seismic inversion experience.
  • Experience integrating geophysical interpretation with geological and geotechnical models.
  • Track record of presenting technical papers and speaking at industry conferences.

Salary for this position: Up to £105,000 per annum. The salary varies for this position as we are recruiting in multiple regional locations and job grades. The salary process is based on skills, abilities, and experience required.
