Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools are currently recruiting for a Teacher of English to join The Mary Erskine School on a temporary, part-time basis from 5 January (or as soon after as possible) until 26 June 2026 (subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks). The role is part time for 14.25 hours, term time, and remuneration will be a pro-rata salary between £23,650 to £34,252, dependent on qualifications and experience.
There is possible scope, for the right candidate, that extra teaching hours may be available on a Friday or opportunity to work up to a full-time capacity. The role is based at the Ravelston site.
The successful candidate must be GTCS-registered, hold a subject-specific degree level qualification, and have familiarity with Scottish qualifications. They should be an excellent practitioner, highly organised, and capable of multitasking while maintaining high standards and fostering positive relationships within the school community.

Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and Disclosure Scotland. All staff working at ESMS have direct access to young people therefore all posts within the school are considered exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
