Teacher of Drama 0.5 FTE (Maternity Cover) - St Margaret\'s School for Girls

We are seeking a suitably qualified graduate with a proven track record of excellent teaching to cover a maternity leave. Specialist drama teaching is delivered as part of the core curriculum to all pupils from Junior through to Senior. Drama lessons at St Margaret’s are inclusive and nurturing, where pupils develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills and are encouraged to explore the world around them in a collaborative and empathetic way. Drama is also a popular examination subject, yielding excellent results at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level. Drama is taught in a spacious, fully equipped studio, complete with sound and lighting systems, mirrored wall, and a stage curtain travel system to create a black box performance space. Drama productions are an important part of school life, with a number of highly anticipated public performances throughout the session for both junior and senior school pupils. Productions are usually performed at professional theatre venues around the city and are often in collaboration with the music department.

Candidates should be GTCS registered or eligible for registration. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to teach a lesson as part of the recruitment process. Start date: Monday 17th August 2026.

Main Responsibilities:

• To prepare and maintain schemes of work.
• To prepare pupils for internal and external assessment.
• To mark and moderate pupils' work.
• To provide a stimulating learning environment for pupils.
• To write reports.
• To maintain pupils' records.
• To liaise with form teachers, guidance staff and support for learning staff regarding the work of individual pupils.
• To provide consultation for pupils and their parents.
• To participate in the school’s professional learning programme.
• To develop and implement teaching and learning strategies in line with school policy.
• To cover for colleagues as required.
• To attend parents’ evenings.
• The organisation and co-ordination of trips, visits, workshops and extra-curricular activities which enrich the day-to-day teaching in the department.
• To plan and deliver performance opportunities for junior and senior school pupils.
• To liaise closely with the Marketing Office, providing images/editorial reflecting the life of the Drama Department.
