Package Description
We are seeking to appoint a Pupil Support Assistant to join our committed junior school team. This post would suit a proven team player who is adaptable and enjoys working with children. The successful candidate will be proficient in literacy and numeracy, will have a good awareness of a variety of support needs and will be willing to develop their own knowledge and skills in order that they make a positive contribution to the learning of pupils within our lively and dynamic school.
Working Hours
Working hours in term time Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 10am-3pm; Thursday & Friday 10am-3.40pm, with a half hour unpaid lunch break each day.
Remuneration and benefits
The annual salary for this position is in the range of £13,500 - £14,473 commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled into the school’s support staff pension scheme, but will have the right to opt out. St Margaret’s has an Employee Assistance programme which offers free and confidential advice on both work and personal issues. Staff with dependents attending the school will be eligible for a 30% remission on school fees (pro-rata for part time staff).

Main Responsibilities
The following is a non-exhaustive list of responsibilities:
- Supervising and supporting children in a range of settings including the dining room and playground.
- Supporting small groups of learners while they work on a task.
- Supporting individual learners with their work in all areas of the curriculum.
- Supporting children to develop their social skills.
- Assisting with the preparation of the learning environment.
- Observing and recording learners’ progress.
- Assisting with the assessment of learners’ progress.
- Responding to minor accidents and incidents and administering First Aid.
- Keeping abreast of educational developments relevant to learners’ needs and the development of the curriculum.

The successful candidate will have a genuine commitment to providing the highest standard of care and support to children and young people. They should possess strong interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of team working. Excellent communication and organisational abilities are essential, along with a flexible, inclusive and compassionate approach to working with children, families and colleagues.

All appointments are subject to the receipt of at least two satisfactory references. All employees at St Margaret’s are required to be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
