£20,918 for period of engagement (£25,102 FTE)

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week worked between 7.45am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and empathetic individual who genuinely enjoys the company of children. Working alongside teaching and support staff, you will provide additional support in the smooth operation of the Junior School. You will be responsible for actively assisting pupils across all curricular areas, providing support for teaching colleagues, and assisting in the organisation of resources and activities. This is an ideal job for a graduate looking to gain experience prior to applying for PGDE Primary Teaching. Support is available for the PGDE application process. The role is term time only and is for the 26/27 academic session, starting 17 August 2026 until 24 June 2027. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview at the Junior School on Wednesday 1st April 2026.

Main Responsibilities

Classroom Support
  • Assisting with the teaching and learning process in classrooms and the wider school environment
  • Being part of the staff team on all Junior School residential trips (P4-P6) and assisting on other trips as required
  • Providing additional support at School events such as Concerts, drama productions and sports days
  • Contributing to the co-curricular programme of the school
Wider School Support
  • Assisting with Wrap Around Care, playground and lunchtime supervision
  • Providing support to class teachers as directed by Heads of Department
PE & Games Coaching
  • Assisting with the PE and Games programme, as directed by the Head Teacher (HT). This may involve a Saturday morning commitment

This is a varied role with the opportunity to get involved in a number of different co-curricular activities which may include a Saturday morning. We are seeking someone who is flexible and keen to immerse his/her/their self in wider school life.

About the school/organisation

The Edinburgh Academy is a fully co-educational school. The School consists of a Senior School, Junior School and a Nursery Department. The School is a member of HMC. The Edinburgh Academy moved to full co-education across the whole school in 2008. The Junior and Senior Schools are on separate sites, both of which have spacious grounds and sports facilities including extensive playing fields, an all-weather sports area, and a large Sports Hall and Centre.
