Position: Art and Design Technician – part time 30 hours per week, permanent, £16,121.73 per annum.

Salary: £16,121.73 per annum to reflect part‑time hours and ‘Term Time Plus’ contract.

Working hours: 30 hours per week (8:30 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break).

Art and Design Technician – part‑time 30 hours per week, permanent, £16,121.73 per annum.

We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and well‑organised technician with a genuine interest in Art and Design and artistic flair, capable of working independently and using their own initiative.

• Main Responsibilities
• Be part of the Faculty of Art and Creative Technologies, working independently and organising daily tasks with a flexible approach.
• Attend regular meetings with the Art & Creative Technologies Faculty.
• Prepare apparatus for lessons and clubs when required.
• Clean and tidy apparatus, ensuring classrooms are ready for the next lesson.
• Assist teachers during practical activities, supervising small group work when required.
• Clean up spillages and apparatus when required.
• Maintain order and organisation of the resource bases and studios, ensuring each teaching room is tidy and clean, including sinks, draining boards and bookshelves.
• Prepare and fire ceramic work, ensuring safe use of clay, glazes, oxides and the kiln.
• Clean equipment regularly and undertake essential repairs.
• Support the Curriculum Leader in maintaining an inventory of equipment and resources; assist in ordering equipment.
• Keep Health and Safety knowledge up to date, attend necessary training and report hazards to the Curriculum Leader.
• Provide technical support in preparation and during audio‑visual activities.
• Handle local purchases of consumables.
• Store tools and equipment securely after use.
• Return students’ work and unused material to the appropriate storage area.
• Assist in preparing exhibitions, productions, classroom and corridor displays within the department and across the school.
• Construct frames for paintings, armatures for sculptures, stretchers for canvas.
• Assist with hanging exhibitions; liaise with Estate Facilities staff for larger jobs that require assistance.
• Carry out other tasks reasonably requested by the Curriculum Leader in accordance with the post holder’s skills and qualifications.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Relevant HNC/HND, degree or equivalent professional qualification in Art and Design.
• Some experience at this level is desirable; newly qualified graduates with art and design experience are welcomed.
• All‑round knowledge of Art and Design.
• Basic joinery/wood work skills.
• Thorough understanding of Health & Safety procedures/systems.
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to motivate others.
• Commitment to the personal development of each child and to the ethos of St George’s.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience in a school environment.
• Knowledge of printmaking techniques, ceramics production, including kiln firing (not essential).
