The predicted salary is between 60000 - 80000 £ per year.

As our Engineering Manager within our preconstruction team, you will manage the design team, external designer and customers and provide technical support to assist with operational activities. This role is based at our Head Office in Barrhead, with flexible working arrangements available, whilst providing pan-Scotland coverage, but may require occasional travel throughout the UK. Reporting to the Preconstruction Director you will manage and deliver all design activities at both preconstruction and construction stages.

Location: Office based but will include visiting sites across Scotland

Salary: Depending on Experience

Hours: 44 hours per week

Duties:

  • Manage design, engineering and CAD personnel in the department
  • Coordinate workload to ensure timely completion of projects
  • Manage permanent and temporary works design for projects within allotted timelines and budgets
  • Report weekly to the Preconstruction Manager on workload and progress
  • Undertake team audits
  • Ensure design processes are managed through Viewpoint For Projects
  • Ensure CDM / health and safety / Environmental regulations are being followed

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical information/advice
  • Propose and/or develop value engineered alternative solutions (during preconstruction and construction phases)
  • Undertake technical review of method statements for complex or unusual methods
  • Undertake review of defects or compensation events and advise on solutions
  • Assist with the implementation of ISO 19650

Administrative Support:

  • Assist with the approval of external suppliers
  • Assist with developing and maintaining processes, procedures, and standards for technical design
  • Obtain or provide pricing for estimating purposes

General Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with customers/suppliers/third parties as necessary
  • Assist with promoting best practice internally
  • Assist with promoting the Company to customers

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Chartered Civil Engineer with minimum 10 years’ experience
  • Significant experience within the civil engineering field
  • Experience in the detailed design of permanent and temporary works including the use of CAD
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry specifications
  • Experience in obtaining third party technical approval of proposals
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering management, construction processes and technical design
  • Good team worker and able to coach others but also able to exercise own judgement and work independently, managing own time/tasks
  • Effective communicator and able to assert own view
  • Ability to identify risks and opportunities
  • Ability to think laterally but remain critically objective in evaluating alternatives
  • A mix of site and design office experience preferred
