Full-Time Position – Progressive 650ha Root Crop Farm near Spalding, Lincolnshire. George Hay & Sons Ltd are seeking a skilled and motivated Arable Operator to join our forward-thinking, progressive farming business based near Spalding. Our 650-hectare arable and root crop operation is committed to high standards of crop production, investment in modern machinery, and continuous improvement across all aspects of the business.

The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of our busy arable unit. You will be involved in a wide range of field-based tasks throughout the seasons, working with modern, well-maintained machinery and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Potato harvesting operations using a self-propelled DeWulf harvester
- Spraying operations across combinable and root crops using a self-propelled John Deere sprayer
- Combining during harvest season
- Drilling of cereals and other crops
- Cultivation work including primary and secondary tillage
- General machinery operation and routine maintenance
- Supporting wider farm operations during peak seasonal workloads
The role requires attention to detail, a strong understanding of field operations, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of work.
Candidate Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
- Is enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated
- Has proven experience in field-based arable operations
- Works well both independently and as part of a small, close-knit team
- Holds a full UK driving licence
- Holds PA1 and PA2 spraying certificates (essential)
- Has a good practical understanding of machinery operation and basic maintenance
- Experience with GPS guidance systems and precision farming technology would be advantageous, but training can be provided for the right candidate.
