Main duties of the job

  • A vacancy exists within the Ophthalmology Department for an Administration Clerk. The successful candidates must have a pleasant and friendly approach to the role and be able to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • They will be part of a team that ensures all administrative and clerical issues relating to the patient\'s pathway of care from referral to treatment or discharge are covered.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate good communication skills.

Job responsibilities

  • To prepare patient notes for on the day clinics ensuring the correct referral and all necessary documents are available for the clinical team prior to the patient attending for their appointment. All results that require a clinical decision are to be made available.
  • To outcome all clinics ensuring all patients have the correct appointment, discharge, waiting list etc. in accordance with the agreed procedure and ensuring the RTT pathway is adhered to at all times. Immediately escalating any concerns within the patients pathway
  • To cancel, re-appoint and reschedule patients appointments at patient or Consultant request within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Absorb information from many different points of contact including patients, nursing and clinical staff, Opticians, outside locations, GP surgeries and other hospitals by written, verbal and email communication. Act on the information and distribute accurately.
