The Controls Engineer is responsible for ensuring reliability and safe operation of electrical systems across offshore assets. Develops preventive maintenance strategies, conducts root cause analysis and supports/leads projects and operations to minimise downtime.
What You’ll Do
- Safety
- Champion a strong safety culture by proactively reporting accidents, near misses, Non-Conformances, and potential hazards.
- Lead Toolbox Talks and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to share best practices and insights.
- Participate actively in onboard safety meetings and emergency drills.
- Support the implementation of the Emergency Preparedness Action Plan when required.
- Review and contribute to Risk Assessments and Incident Investigations, conducting Root Cause Analysis and analysing equipment failure data.
- Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, standards, and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Quality
- Collaborate with suppliers to verify that all equipment meets the highest standards and is fit for purpose.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) to ensure performance and schedule adherence.
- Keep up to date with industry trends and technological advancements to recommend equipment upgrades and enhancements.
- Reliability
- Provide expert reliability and maintenance support to both Operations and Project teams across company assets.
- Conduct compliance and quality audits in line with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Assess on-site issues with problematic equipment, planning and overseeing repairs, replacements, or upgrades.
- Support the identification of critical spares and lead obsolescence management initiatives to ensure business continuity.
- Maintenance & Asset Lifecycle
- Support the development and implementation of fit-for-purpose maintenance strategies within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance asset performance and maintenance efficiency.
- Ensure maintenance reporting and CMMS procedures are current, relevant, and effectively used onboard.
- Assist the Maintenance Planning Team in scheduling major overhauls, upgrades, and inspections.
- Serve as the onshore technical point of contact for complex maintenance challenges when offshore expertise has been exhausted.
- Provide specialist expertise in troubleshooting and condition monitoring of electrical systems.
- Develop, review, and optimise asset care processes and maintenance schedules to extend asset life and reliability.
- Identify and implement innovative improvements to electrical systems, enhancing efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Who We’re Looking For
- A background in Engineering or Electrotechnical studies, with an HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience as a Senior Electrician within drilling rigs, marine construction, heavy industry, or a closely related environment.
- Strong capabilities in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Project management experience is an advantage; training can be provided where needed.
- Experience in electrical design is desirable.
