Reporting to the UK Sales Director, the Tender Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end tendering and proposal process for Freight Forwarding, Project Logistics, and Contract Logistics. This role ensures high quality, timely, and commercially competitive submissions that align with business strategy, operational capability, and client expectations. The Tender Manager acts as the central coordinator between commercial, operations, finance, legal, and senior leadership to develop winning solutions, clear value propositions, and compelling bid content.
Key Activities / Accountabilities- Tender Management
- Handling complex pricing and solution tenders across all transportation modes by capturing customer requirements, designing tailored solutions, and preparing customized proposals that go beyond standard offerings.
- Liaising with cross-functional departments (Product, Business Excellence, Implementation, Environment, etc.) to gather necessary information and ensure comprehensive, value-driven tender submissions.
- Ensuring compliance with all legal, ethical, and company standards throughout the tender process.
- Efficiently coordinating allocated tasks into daily work routines using project management tools and methodologies.
- Analyzing volume data and providing analytical support to develop solution-oriented pricing strategies and revenue overviews.
- Ensuring timely and accurate documentation, preparing and submitting all required tender materials with meticulous attention to detail.
- Participating in process development for tender and solution design, preparing reports, maintaining databases, and using agreed systems for tender management, analysis, and reporting as requested by relevant stakeholders.
- Work with Marketing, Product, Operations and BDMs to create high quality written content, including technical responses, methodologies, execution plans, risk assessments, executive summaries, and value propositions.
- Ensure proposals are accurate, persuasive, solution focused, and aligned with the company's operational capabilities and standards.
- Develop bid narratives that emphasise safety, compliance, efficiency, innovation, and customer value.
- Edit and proofread contributions from SMEs to ensure consistency of tone, structure, and quality.
- Act as the focal point for tender-related communication across internal teams and external partners.
- Facilitate internal review meetings, solution development workshops, and approval processes.
- Collaborate with legal teams to ensure contract terms, deviations, and qualifications are properly addressed.
- Maintain tender libraries, templates, and standard content for continuous improvement.
- Conduct post tender evaluations and capture lessons learned.
- Contribute to the development of best practices for bid writing, tender management, and commercial excellence.
- Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of Freight Forwarding, and Supply chain, knowledge of Project and Contract Logistics also a benefit.
- Proven experience managing tenders in Freight Forwarding and Logistics.
- High level bid writing ability with strong command of English grammar, structure, and technical clarity.
- Competent in commercial modelling and cost estimation principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and tender management systems.
- Previous experience in freight forwarding, project logistics, project cargo, Contract Logistics or related technical/commercial roles.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering successful tenders/bids.
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, business, engineering, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
- Excellent written communication and storytelling skills.
- Exceptional project management and deadline management.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem solving capabilities.
- Ability to influence and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
- High attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
