About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Utility Surveyor to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are interested in technology, engineering, and working outdoors. As an Assistant Utility Surveyor, you will work alongside experienced surveyors to help locate and map underground utilities such as water pipes, gas mains, electricity cables, and telecoms infrastructure. These surveys are essential for construction and infrastructure projects to ensure work is carried out safely and accurately. This is a hands‑on role combining outdoor site work with modern survey technology. You will receive full training and have the opportunity to develop a long‑term career in the surveying and geospatial industry.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Field Survey Work
    • Assist senior surveyors in carrying out underground utility surveys on a variety of sites.
    • Use specialist survey equipment such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), GPS, and Total Stations.
  • Data Collection & Recording
    • Record accurate measurements and site observations.
    • Mark utility positions on site using spray paint and markers.
    • Capture survey data which will be used to produce detailed maps and drawings.
  • Equipment & Site Preparation
    • Transport, set up, and maintain survey equipment.
    • Ensure all equipment is clean, safe, and ready for use.
    • Assist with preparing survey documentation.
  • Health & Safety
    • Follow strict Health & Safety procedures while working on construction sites, highways, and other environments.
    • Support compliance with PAS128 standards for underground utility detection.
    • Ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  • Office Support (Occasional)
    • Assist with processing survey data.

What We’re Looking For

  • We welcome applications from school leavers, apprentices, or anyone looking to start a career in surveying.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Full UK driving licence (or working towards one).
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Previous experience in construction or outdoor work.

Full training will be provided.
