Geo. Spence & Sons is a family‑owned, independent tools, ironmongery, and hardware shop located in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Serving both trade and retail customers, we pride ourselves on offering high‑quality products at competitive prices. Our dedicated and knowledgeable staff ensure excellent customer service. We operate from Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Do you take pride in happy customers and well‑organised shelves? Are you also keen to drive sales and spot opportunities to turn great service into great results? Then we might be looking for you. We’re on the hunt for a Retail Shop Floor Manager who can lead from the front, keep things running smoothly, and work with a motivated team to deliver strong sales as well as smiles.

Expert knowledge of tools, ironmongery & hardware isn’t necessary but an interest in the products and a willingness to learn is essential; what’s more important is a good sense of humour and excellent retail team management and customer facing skills as our staff and customers are a friendly bunch.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supervising the shop floor and making sure it looks great and is appropriately stocked
  • Supporting, motivating, and coaching team members to deliver excellent service and hit sales targets
  • Leading by example on the shop floor, actively engaging with customers to help them find the products they need
  • Handling customer queries with charm, confidence, and common sense
  • Opening and closing the store, cashing up
  • Jumping in wherever needed — tills, stock, displays, or problem‑solving on the fly

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience serving customers & supervisory experience
  • A keen drive to increase sales and motivate others to do the same
  • A natural leader who leads by example, not by clipboard
  • Calm under pressure, friendly by nature, and unflappable when it gets busy
  • Organised and reliable
  • Someone who knows that “team player” isn’t just a buzzword

What’s in it for you:

  • A supportive team who actually like working together
  • Competitive pay and staff discount
  • Opportunities to grow the role

If you’re the kind of person who notices when something’s out of place and spots an opportunity to boost sales while fixing it, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and help keep our shop floor running like a friendly and well‑oiled machine.
