About the Opportunity

The Fulham Correctional Centre currently has vacancies for Casual Weekday Administration Support Officers in our prisoner canteen. The primary objective of the position is to maintain and provide functions and services of the prisoner canteen.

About the Role

  • Maintain all functions of the prisoner canteen and computerised stock system, including sales to prisoners, processing of phones to the PTS, stock ordering, etc.
  • Supervise prisoners working in the Prisoner Canteen in relation to re-stocking shelves and picking items for sales, ensuring that security is observed at all times.
  • When necessary, arrange for replacement of Prisoner Workers via the Prisoner Employment system.
  • Assess stock levels and place orders with suppliers on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure stock control is maintained, and cycle count checks are undertaken daily.
  • Participate in monthly physical stock take and Infinium update.
  • Check off all receipted stock against receipted stock during deliveries.
  • Monitor perishable items and minimise waste.
  • Handle phone enquiries.
  • Maintain office systems including the filing and information retrieval systems pertaining to the Prisoner Canteen.
  • Assist with the preparation of policies and procedures.
  • Any other responsibilities that apply to this position as defined in the relevant sections of the Operating Manual.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety and EEO / EOWA requirements in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of safety and equity in the workplace.
  • Provide relief in other administration positions, as required.
  • Other duties as directed by the department manager.

About You

Candidates should have the following:

  • Essential: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of organisation, co-ordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven skills in the use and application of a range of computer software in a Windows environment.
  • Experience in customer service and stock control.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and cope in a busy environment.
  • Good keyboard skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a correctional environment.

Previous experience working in a correctional setting or other fast-paced canteen-style environment would be advantageous. Due to the nature of the role of ASO position, to be successful, applicants will require the ability to work directly with prisoners in a correctional environment, complying with the security policies and procedures of the Centre. GEO will require applicants to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances from Victoria Police and Corrections Victoria (at GEO's expense). The successful applicants are also required to undergo a pre-employment medical prior to commencing employment.
