Geo-4D is an independent geoscience consultancy specialist based in Oxfordshire, UK, specialising in offshore geoscience consultancy for renewables projects and subsea cables. We specialise in analysing and integrating offshore geophysical, geotechnical and geological datasets to allow for accurate characterisation of ground conditions, hazards and constraints for offshore developments from early stage site assessments to asset monitoring analyses.

Geo-4D seeks an experienced Senior or Principal geoscientist to join its expanding team. The Senior/Principal Geoscientist will manage various projects by reviewing, interpreting, and integrating multidisciplinary data sets to evaluate site conditions and risks. Additional responsibilities include developing methods for data analysis, guiding personnel and workflow development, preparing tenders, fulfilling project management tasks, supporting business development, and assisting with daily operations alongside technical duties. Applicants should have a strong background in data integration, engineering geological ground modelling and cable burial risk assessment. It would also be beneficial to have an understanding of foundation engineering, sediment mobility assessments, metocean analyses, cable installation and consenting.

Responsibilities and indicative division of time:

  • Offshore consultancy – technical (50%)
    • Review, process and interpret offshore geophysical and geotechnical datasets
    • Develop engineering geological desk studies, CBRAs and ground models
    • Technical reporting
    • GIS-based geoprocessing, database management, figure and chart creation
    • Writing of geophysical and geotechnical survey specifications and scopes of work
    • Management and technical optimisation of offshore surveys
  • Technical and commercial tendering (20%)
  • Team supervision and project/financial management (20%)
    • Provide technical supervision of a small team of geoscientists on a project-by-project basis
    • Perform project management duties, including deadline management, financial tracking and budget management
  • Business development and day-to-day business operations (10%)
    • Develop and promote new services, processes and workflows
    • Promote services at conferences, exhibitions and client meetings
    • Provide input to marketing material

Required Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in an offshore geoscience consultancy, hold an earth sciences degree and have a strong background in:

  • Reviewing and interpreting offshore geophysical, geotechnical and geological datasets
  • Developing engineering geological desk studies and ground models
  • Geotechnical and geophysical survey best practice
  • Geospatial data management, geoprocessing and interrogation in ArcGIS (or QGIS)
  • Processing and interpretation of offshore datasets in standard software packages, such as S&P Kingdom, DUG Insight, SonarWiz, Seaview, Leapfrog and Oasis Montaj
  • Technical report writing and communication skills
  • Developing concise and easy-to-understand report figures and charts
  • Independent and team-based working, attention to detail and strong self‑checking abilities
