Genvolt Ltd is looking for a Senior High Voltage Design Engineer to join our Engineering and Special Projects team at our site in Highley, Shropshire. This is a senior technical role suited to an experienced electronics or power electronics engineer with strong high voltage design capability, practical hands-on testing experience and the confidence to lead complex engineering work from concept through to production introduction.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, verification and support of high voltage power supplies and associated electronic systems, including power conversion systems, analogue and digital electronics, magnetics, control circuits, simulation, prototyping, testing and fault investigation. The role will also involve working on customer and defence-related projects where disciplined documentation, traceability, security awareness and technical integrity are essential.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the design and development of high voltage power supplies, power conversion systems and associated electronic subsystems.
  • Taking engineering projects from customer requirement and concept through detailed design, prototype build, verification, production introduction and support.
  • Producing specifications, schematics, calculations, design records, bills of materials, test evidence and technical reports.
  • Using schematic capture, PCB layout and simulation tools, including KiCAD or comparable professional design packages.
  • Defining and carrying out safe test, validation, commissioning and fault-finding activities on high voltage equipment.
  • Providing senior technical input to design reviews, customer discussions, quotations, investigations and controlled design changes.
  • Mentoring colleagues, supporting production and working closely with Quality, Operations, Procurement, Sales, customers and suppliers.

What we're looking for:

  • Degree, HND/HNC or equivalent experience in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or a closely related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in high voltage power supply or power electronics design.
  • Strong understanding of converter topologies, magnetics, insulation, layout, component selection and safe working principles.
  • Proven experience taking designs through development, prototype testing, validation and introduction to manufacture.
  • Ability to diagnose complex electrical and electronic faults and turn findings into practical engineering solutions.
  • Clear communication skills, strong documentation standards and the confidence to lead technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A practical, methodical and safety-conscious approach, with strong attention to detail and ownership of technical outcomes.

Desirable experience:

  • Switched-mode power supplies, high voltage DC-DC converters, IGBT or MOSFET power stages and gate-drive circuit design.
  • EMC-conscious design, thermal management, creepage and clearance, insulation coordination and design for reliability.
  • Microcontroller or embedded software experience.
  • Experience in defence, aerospace, nuclear, medical, critical infrastructure or another regulated or high-reliability environment.
  • Professional registration or progress towards IEng or CEng.

Security and screening:

Because this role supports sensitive UK defence projects, appointment will be subject to the candidate satisfying the required right-to-work, nationality, residency and personnel security requirements. The current role requirement is British citizenship and successful completion of BPSS screening before access is granted to relevant work, systems, sites or information. Any nationality or residency requirement will be applied only where it is an evidenced and necessary requirement of the relevant contract, export-control obligation or security framework.

What we offer:

  • Salary of £60,000 per annum.
  • Work based pension and Healthcare plan.
  • 33 Days Holiday (including Bank Holidays).
  • A senior, hands-on engineering role with real technical ownership and influence.
  • The opportunity to work on specialist high voltage products and challenging customer-led projects.
  • A collaborative, practical engineering environment with close links between design, production, quality and customer support.

Due to the nature of the work involved we are not accepting applications from foreign nationals; sponsorship is not available for this role. No Agencies are required.
