We are looking for a skilled Indirect Tax Manager to lead our global indirect tax framework covering VAT / GST sales & use tax and e-invoicing mandates. Reporting to the Head of Tax, this will be a hands-on and strategic role blending compliance oversight with process improvement and cross-functional collaboration. Youβll be the go-to expert for indirect tax matters driving automation, managing audits and advising on business changes. This is a Hybrid role with an expectation of 2 days a week at the Basingstoke office.
You Will
- Compliance Leadership: Ensure accurate and timely filings, payments and reconciliations for indirect taxes across multiple jurisdictions. Maintain a robust tax calendar and control environment.
- Advisory & Risk Management: Advise on the tax impact of contracts, pricing, promotions and new market entries. Provide practical guidance to commercial teams.
- Audit Management: Lead interactions with tax authorities, manage audits and controversies and negotiate settlements as needed.
- Systems & Automation: Own tax determination and reporting logic in ERP and billing platforms (D365, Avalara). Champion automation, data quality and process standardisation.
- Controls & Documentation: Maintain process narratives, risk/control matrices and technical position papers. Implement reconciliations and exception handling.
- Transactional Accuracy: Monitor tax coding for AP/AR reverse charge, place-of-supplies, exemption and evidence requirements. Oversee product taxability and certificate management.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Finance (AP/AR), Procurement, Legal, IT, Logistics and Commercial teams on billing flows, contracts, supply chain and system changes.
- Project Support: Contribute to business restructurings, supply-chain optimisation, e-invoicing/real-time reporting mandates and new country launches.
- Training & Enablement: Deliver indirect tax training for finance and commercial teams. Foster a culture of tax compliance by design.
Requirements
- Degree-level education and relevant professional qualifications (e.g. ATT, CTA, ACA, ACCA).
- 6 years of indirect tax experience in industry or accountancy with multi-jurisdiction exposure.
- Strong knowledge of VAT / GST sales & use tax rules, place-of-supplies, digital services/marketplace regimes and e-invoicing mandates.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft D365 ERP and tax engines (e.g. Avalara) is ideal.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to operate independently, prioritise and deliver on projects.
- Exposure to customs duties/tariffs and import/export processes is a plus.
