We're looking for an experienced Internal Controls Specialist to play a key role in preparing our organisation for compliance with UK Corporate Governance Code Provision 29. This is an exciting fixed term 6 month contract opportunity to influence and enhance our control environment, work collaboratively across the business, and support senior leaders in driving bestâinâclass governance practices.
In this role, you'll lead the planning and execution of riskâbased control testing, assess the effectiveness of our control framework, and help shape remediation plans that strengthen our business for the future. You Will
- Conduct design and operating effectiveness testing for key financial and nonâfinancial controls as part of our Provision 29 readiness.
- Draw clear, evidenceâbased conclusions on control performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide practical, constructive feedback to control owners and senior stakeholders.
- Support the development of proportionate remediation plans and monitor progress through to completion.
- Work closely with colleagues across the internal controls team to ensure consistent, highâquality documentation and reporting.
- Use GRC technology to log testing, track remediation and support reporting.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our internal controls framework, ensuring consistency, transparency, and testability.
- Deliver highâquality outputs on time and within scope.
Requirements
Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or similar.
- Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, or IIA are desirable.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in control testing or assessments (e.g., SOX or other compliance frameworks).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies, control design and testing techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problemâsolving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable using control testing or GRC tools/software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
- Highly organised, able to prioritise, and capable of working independently or within a team.
