Manthorpe Building Products is a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of plastic injection moulded, vacuum formed and extruded products for the building industry. The Role: You will be responsible and accountable for leading the daily operations across Injection Moulding, Metallising, Extrusion, Thermoforming, and associated assembly processes. This includes ensuring that high-quality products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in line with production schedules. The role will provide strong leadership to Shift Leads and Team Leaders, driving performance and continuous improvement across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, and People.

Areas Of Responsibility:

  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring all working practices protect both employees and the wider workplace. Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards and procedures. Proactively promote and maintain a safe, clean, and compliant production environment.
  • Operational Leadership: Plan and deliver production activities to achieve performance targets, cost objectives, and safety standards. Provide clear, hands-on leadership to Shift and Assembly Team Leaders to meet daily production goals. Lead, coach, and develop multi-shift teams, driving performance, engagement, and succession planning. Act as a role model, setting high standards of behaviour and accountability.
  • Quality Management: Ensure all products consistently meet customer specifications and recognised industry standards. Lead investigations into non-conforming products, implementing effective root cause solutions. Promote a culture where quality is embedded at every level of the operation.
  • Technical Expertise: Utilise strong knowledge of injection moulding processes, equipment, and materials to support operations. Drive effective troubleshooting and continuous optimisation of machinery and tooling.
  • Continuous Improvement (GBS - Genuit Business Systems): Lead Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality. Facilitate improvement activities such as Kaizen and 6S, encouraging cross-functional collaboration. Monitor and act on key performance metrics (e.g. OEE, scrap, productivity, and quality measures). Support ongoing productivity improvements and embed best practice across the operation. Lead daily performance reviews and actively contribute to structured operational meetings. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and employee engagement.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Manage production budgets effectively, balancing cost control with quality and safety. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising standards.

  • Experience working within structured continuous improvement frameworks, including Lean methodologies.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Good working knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation within a manufacturing setting.
  • Self-motivated and accountable, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence in learning new systems and technologies.

Qualifications & Knowledge:

  • ILM Level 4 in Operations (or equivalent).
  • HNC (Level 4) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Desirable - however, candidates without this qualification are still encouraged to apply).
  • IOSH Managing Safely (essential).
  • Lean Awareness training.
  • Relevant in-house or technical training within a production environment.
  • Previous experience in colleague management or team leadership within injection moulding or extrusion environments.
  • Strong, hands-on knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and problem-solving activities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
