The Opportunity
As the Head of Engineering, you own the outcomes of the EMEA Delivery Engineering teams. You will work with the Heads of Engineering across EMEA to continually review and improve the engineering practice for ongoing improvements in critical areas such as quality, security and scalability while ensuring that modern agile practices are embedded into the fabric of the engineering organization to support our people and our customers. You are responsible for the leadership, guidance and mentoring of the EMEA Engineering and Delivery Managers, working with the Customer Success and Project teams to ensure the engineering department is sized to meet the work demands.
You are a leader, comfortable with managing software development and delivery, using an agile mindset to continuously improve and coach individuals & teams while continuing to understand the needs of the business' bigger picture and work to evolve the Engineering organization accordingly. You play a pivotal role in inspiring and motivating everyone in EMEA engineering to be the best they can be. You will engage with other senior leaders in both Delivery Engineering and Product Development to understand emerging technologies and the implications for Delivery Engineering.
You will partner closely with the Heads of Customer Success and Project Delivery to ensure delivery of world class software and services to our customers, while understanding the engineering drivers that impact profitability and continually working together to drive customer profitability, with a key responsibility being the measurement and improvement of customer profitability. You will spend time with our customers, developing relationships with key customer stakeholders to understand customer needs and challenges, then using this as a mechanism to help drive innovation within the engineering organisation.
As the owner of the outputs of the EMEA Delivery Engineering Teams, understanding the performance of the teams and using this information to identify and implement improvements to support customer satisfaction and profitability is a key aspect of the role.
The Specifics
- Lead the EMEA engineering and delivery managers, as well as other key senior roles as required
- Understand and measure performance metrics and deliver ongoing improvements (throughput, quality, utilisation, profitability)
- Contribute to the engineering practice, driving ongoing improvement
- Understand our emerging technology and work to minimize the impacts to Delivery Engineering and ultimately our customers
- Work with other senior staff and leaders to drive innovation across EMEA
- Foster a team environment, creating high performing teams
- Grow the Gentrack engineering brand to attract and retain talent
- As a member of the EMEA senior leadership team work on initiatives to uplift and scale the EMEA business
- Look to increase efficiencies in the engineering practice and drive improvements in customer profitability through improvements to process, practice and technology
- Create transparency into engineering performance, monitor and report on key metrics including financial metrics to maximise revenue from work
- Work with other senior leaders to transfer knowledge to the engineering teams and understand the technology roadmap to prepare Delivery Engineering for adoption of new products and features.
- Guide and support the NZ engineering and delivery managers to ensure the delivery of engineering services securely and with a high level of quality.
- Works with PMO, Engineering and Delivery Managers and Customer Success to manage resource supply and demand. Represents the engineering group in front of the customers, participates in accounts meetings internal & external
- Supports the Engineering Managers and Customer Success in handling P1s/P2s and brings in all technical experts
- Work to advance the security and automation in the engineering practice
- You will foster the evolution of the delivery engineering team culture in a growing organization
- You drive change within the development organisation and foster a positive culture of continuous improvement

- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing engineering teams, including overseeing software delivery processes, ensuring high quality outputs, and meeting delivery deadlines
- Track record of managing and improving operational processes with extensive experience in implementing and optimizing Agile methodologies across numerous teams
- Experience in defining and executing engineering strategies that align with business objectives, including capacity planning, resource management, recruitment, and risk mitigation
- Deep understanding of software delivery processes and what it takes to drive successful delivery of high quality, secure, software
- A passion for people and a track record of nurturing and growing them to be the best they can be
- Experience in and ideas for influencing change and growth of development teams
- A relentless drive for continuous improvement in processes, others and yourself
