We are delighted to invest further and expand our teams with new opportunities for qualified Electricians to join the Property Maintenance team, working across the City of Sunderland to carry out domestic EICR testing and deliver excellent service to our customers. We are seeking to recruit qualified Electricians with knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations, Codes of Practice, and guidance, as well as experience in electrical procedures in both domestic and commercial environments.

Our customers are at the heart of Gentoo. Providing excellent customer service is an essential part of this role. We are looking for an experienced Electrician who has developed strong communication skills with customers, colleagues and wider teams, ensuring that Gentoo delivers exceptional service to every customer.

Working a standard 36-hour Mon - Fri working week with a flexible approach to meet the needs of the business, including occasional overtime as required. Training and development opportunities are available to support you in building your knowledge and skills to enhance work performance and achieve professional growth. A full UK driver’s licence is required for this position. The role is subject to a basic DBS arranged and funded by Gentoo.

Key responsibilities:
  • Carry out domestic EICR testing to Gentoo domestic and non-domestic properties.
  • Support teams to carry out repairs, maintenance and installation as required.
  • Complete all necessary electronic certification as required by the Group in line with relevant British Standards and Regulatory bodies applicable to the work carried out.
  • Ensure all work carried out meets the minimum standards set by the current Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (currently 18th edition) and Gentoo Group.
  • Carry out all works in an efficient, timely manner.
  • Liaise with Line Managers regarding the status of all work.
  • The Group operate an Emergency Out of Hours Service, which you may be required to work on a rota basis as and when required.
What we are looking for:
  • A full UK driver’s licence.
  • Proven ability and experience carrying out domestic EICR testing in accordance with relevant specifications and to current BS 7671:2018 Regulations as amended.
  • City and Guilds 2391 or equivalent – Inspection and Testing Certificate is highly desirable - if you do not currently hold this, you must be willing to work toward achieving it within an agreed timescale.
  • Demonstrable ability to carry out electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance as required by the Group and in accordance with relevant specifications, standards and regulatory bodies.
  • Served a recognised (Indentured) Electrical apprenticeship with City & Guilds 2361 part 1 & 2 or equivalent or NVQ Level 3.
  • Be fully conversant and competent to carry out works in accordance with the current Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations/BS7671 plus all ongoing revisions.
  • Proven ability to carry out electrical installations, repairs, maintenance and testing as required by the Group and in accordance with relevant specifications, standards and Regulatory bodies.
  • Proven ability to carry out inspection, testing and certification.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of relevant Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Ability to carry out minor building and plumbing works associated with electrical works, for example, minor plaster patching/making good and connecting water supplies to showers.
  • A flexible approach to meet the demands of the role.
  • Competence in the use of handheld IT systems.
  • A logical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving.
