Following an internal promotion, we're excited to offer a new opportunity within our Property Safety team for a Multi Maintenance Operative (Fire Door Maintenance Operative) to work across the City of Sunderland. This evolving role reflects our commitment to growth and delivering exceptional service to our customers. You'll work closely with the Property Safety team, supporting colleagues in the delivery of a high-quality repairs and maintenance service. You’ll complete all fire door-related tasks—inspections, maintenance, repairs, hardware changes, and general upkeep—helping ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers.
Currently based from our Doxford Park head office—moving to our brand-new site at Eastgate Point later this year. We support a great work-life balance with our standard 36-hour working week, Monday to Friday. Plus, enjoy an early finish every Friday—giving you more time for what matters to you. We are also proud to be certified as a "Great Place To Work". A full UK driving licence and a basic DBS check (arranged and funded by Gentoo) are required for this position.
What you will be doing:
- Complete annual and quarterly fire door inspections across our housing stock (full fire-door training provided).
- Carry out multi-maintenance door repairs in occupied homes, void properties, and communal areas.
- Responsibility to have the right parts and materials ready for each job.
- Deliver high-quality work efficiently and on schedule.
- Keep your Repairs Manager or Supervisor updated on progress.
- Work collaboratively with other trades when needed.
- Accurately complete all required documentation.
- Ensure all works meet legal, regulatory, and Gentoo standards.
- Uphold the Gentoo Customer Care Policy and Code of Conduct.
- Driving as required to support service delivery.
- Take part in the Emergency Out-of-Hours Service rota when needed.
What you will bring:
Essential:
- A full UK driver's licence.
- Demonstrable experience of carrying out multi-maintenance repairs/inspections to fire doors/upvc doors/windows in accordance with current UK legislation (training on current fire door inspections and maintenance regulations can be provided).
- A FDIS Diploma or equivalent OR willing to work towards.
- Strong knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations.
- Confidence using handheld IT systems.
- Excellent communication skills with customers, colleagues, and wider teams.
- A commitment to ongoing learning and development.
- Ability to manage materials and stock effectively.
- Demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A customer-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work additional hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Desirable:
- Joinery NVQ Level 2.
- Experience in installing timber doors, UPVC doors, and windows.
