Job Description
We are looking for a committed and proactive individual to join our Caretaking team in the role of part-time Caretaker for a period of 12 months. This position is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of our high-rise residential buildings across Sunderland. Working 22 hours Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri over 3 sites, ideally on the following working pattern – however, we can offer some flexibility that can be discussed at the interview stage.
- Mon: 8 am–4.30 pm
- Tues, Weds: 8 am–1 pm
- Fri: 8 am–12.00 noon
If you’re looking for a part-time role that enables you to make a genuine impact within your local community, this could be the ideal opportunity for you. As you will be required to work at various locations within the Sunderland area, the ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the post is essential, a driver’s license would be helpful but not essential.
In this key role, you will be responsible for providing a refuse management and communal cleaning service for our customers in our high‑rise residential buildings. The role also involves monitoring the buildings and identifying any issues or concerns, such as faults or repairs within the communal areas.
Responsibilities
- Thorough cleaning of internal and external communal spaces.
- Safe removal of bulky waste and furniture from shared areas.
- Ensuring buildings are secure, safe, and fully operational at all times.
- Reporting faults or repairs and keeping accurate records.
- Assisting with deliveries and collections as required.
- Collaborating with Neighbourhood Coordinators to deliver a customer‑focused service.
- Using cleaning materials responsibly in line with COSHH and Health & Safety guidelines.
- Participating in training, ensuring compliance with security protocols, and raising any well‑being concerns appropriately.
- Supporting access for contractors and external partners when needed.
Requirements
- A full UK driver’s licence is desirable but not essential for this position.
- Demonstrable experience in cleaning, including the use of cleaning equipment, in either commercial or residential areas.
- Manual handling.
- Developed communication and customer care skills.
- Some knowledge and skills with IT systems.
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety Legislation.
- Knowledge of current COSHH regulations.
