Job Description
Are you ready to make a real impact in the housing sector? Join our Property Maintenance team at Gentoo in the role of Maintenance Surveyor within our Damp and Mould team. We are dedicated to supporting our customers to live in safe, healthy, warm homes and ensuring any reports of damp or mould are dealt with efficiently and effectively. That\’s why we\’re looking for someone with expertise in identifying the root cause of defects and proposing appropriate remedial actions in line with Awaab’s Law.
As a key player in our repairs service, you\’ll be at the forefront of investigating reports of damp and mould, understanding their causes, providing invaluable advice to our customers, and raising repair orders to keep their homes safe and comfortable. Training will be given on our IT systems used for completing reports from inspections and the moisture detection equipment used by surveyors. We support a great work-life balance. As a Maintenance Surveyor you will work a standard 36-hour working week, Mon – Fri, with an early finish on Fridays. We ask that you have a flexible approach to meet the needs of the business, including occasional overtime as required. We are also proud to be certified as a “Great Place To Work”. A full UK driving licence and a basic DBS check (arranged and funded by Gentoo) are required for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed full property inspections with a key focus on investigating reports of damp and mould in scope of Awaab’s Law, identifying causes and recommending effective and cost-efficient repairs / solutions. Provide appropriate guidance and information to customers as required.
- Identify any potential asbestos-containing materials whilst on site, coordinate asbestos survey requests and analyse results before issuing work or granting any permission requests.
- Raise maintenance works orders to properties where required (both internal & sub-contracted work) with relevant SOR, ensuring effective recording and reporting and ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
- Identify building defects and Provide Building Technical Advice as required to members of the group as necessary, ensuring a high-quality, customer-focused service.
- Liaise with management regarding outcomes and results of inspections and trend analysis.
- Should business needs require, demonstrate competence in non-trade specific tasks, and flexibly support the management team as and when required.
Essential Criteria
- A Full UK Driving Licence.
- ONC/HNC in Construction, OR the ability to demonstrate equivalent work experience in a construction-related field.
- Practical knowledge of Building and Planning Regulations, Highway Regulations and Party Wall Act, with experience in detecting building defects, and identifying causes of damp and mould.
- Asbestos Awareness: successful candidate will complete an Asbestos awareness course provided by Gentoo; some knowledge of asbestos and its impact/processes around property repairs would be advantageous.
- Providing a customer-focused service.
- Excellent literacy, numeracy, technical and IT skills with experience of using a handheld device.
- Ability to work in internal/external environments.

- Experience in applying damp and mould treatment products.
