Are you passionate about making a real difference in your community? Are you seeking a role where you can contribute to building safer, stronger communities in Sunderland? We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Community Safety Officer to join our dedicated Safety & Support team. As a Community Safety Officer, you will play a vital part in ensuring our neighbourhoods remain safe, supportive, and inclusive places for everyone. You will manage and resolve anti-social behaviour cases, working closely with customers, partners, and colleagues to deliver outstanding service and positive outcomes. We support a great work-life balance, and as a Community Safety Officer at Gentoo, you will work a standard 36-hour working week, Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Fridays. We ask that you have a flexible approach to meet the needs of the business, including occasional overtime as required. We are also proud to be certified as a \”Great Place To Work\”. A full UK driver\\\’s licence is essential for this position. This position is subject to a basic DBS check, which will be arranged and paid for by Gentoo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately record and monitor all casework, ensuring progress is tracked and risk assessments are carried out efficiently.
  • Maintain high standards of case management in line with the organisation\\\’s policy and service requirements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working outside standard hours when necessary to investigate and address incidents of anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods, or to support our partners.
  • Confidently lead, participate in, and attend key meetings such as case conferences, court hearings, and multi-agency forums, taking a proactive approach to collaboration.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions to support the development of colleagues and share best practices.
  • Stay up to date with current legislation and best practice, to ensure you deliver a high-quality, responsive service.
  • Apply safeguarding procedures confidently and appropriately for both children and adults.
  • Ensure our service is accessible and inclusive, providing multiple ways for victims to report anti-social behaviour and receive support.

What we are looking for

  • A full UK driver\\\’s licence.
  • A strong understanding of housing-related issues, policies, and procedures, including knowledge of Regulatory Standards and Tenant Satisfaction Measures.
  • Awareness of the legal frameworks, powers, and tools available to address anti-social behaviour, and the ability to apply these effectively and appropriately.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Previous experience in social housing, community safety, or a similar customer-focused environment (desirable but not essential).
  • Direct experience in managing cases involving anti-social behaviour, with a focus on fair and proportionate outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Confidence and resilience in handling conflict or challenging situations, with a commitment to maintaining respectful and constructive communication.
  • Ability to work flexibly, manage competing priorities, and remain calm under pressure.
