About the Job:
- Lead the design and development of advanced helmet systems and related equipment, incorporating cutting-edge materials and technologies for aircrew and groundcrew applications.
- Drive projects from concept through production, ensuring compliance with performance, cost, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership in new product development (NPD/NPI), including design reviews (PDR/CDR) and risk analysis.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with ISO9001/AS9100 and DAOS regulations.
- Manage technical information and support for creation of drawings, bills of materials and related process and control documentation.
- Support the implementation of product testing and test procedures for both internal and external facilities during all phases of product life cycle.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and corporate facilities – worldwide.
- Conduct feasible studies involving cost, manufacturability, performance and quality.
- Lead design to cost, ensuring all new products meet the cost targets for piece parts and manufacturing costs.
- Support internal and external audits and compliance with regulations and standards.
What You'll Bring:
- The ability to communicate design concepts and engineering principles to individual team members and groups from different disciplines and areas of the business.
- Develop mechanical and composite designs using SolidWorks and GD&T principles.
- Experience in Composite materials and design for manufacturability.
- Track and implement new composite & polymer technologies.
- A background in aviation/defense engineering or working under a DAOS Approval scheme beneficial.
- Analysing and interpreting data, with recommendations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Use of general workshop machinery and tools.
- Prototyping using different media.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Packages including Excel, Word, Project and Visio.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Degree, HND, time served apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
- 5 years minimum in a similar role within an engineering environment.
- Experience of leading small teams.
