Role Purpose

We’re looking for an experienced Group Financial Controller to lead and oversee our core finance functions, ensuring the highest standards in financial reporting and compliance.

This is a leadership role for a qualified accountant with strong accounting experience, ideally with exposure to US financial practices. As the key leader of our accounting function (distinct from the wider finance function covering financial and strategic planning, fundraising, corporate finance, and M&A), you’ll work closely with the FP&A Manager, overseeing the monthly closing process and financial statement preparation. You’ll also be responsible for managing all key finance operations, including treasury, taxation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and share-based payments.

A Day in the Life

  • Oversee and manage all financial accounting processes, ensuring the integrity of the general ledger and timely preparation of financial statements.
  • Lead the annual audit process and oversee corporate and indirect tax filings, including R&D tax credits, in collaboration with tax advisors.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governmental reporting obligations.
  • Take ownership of cash management and financial transactions, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Oversee IT solutions for our accounting system, optimising efficiency and accuracy.
  • Drive the ongoing development of financial policies, processes, and procedures, ensuring best practices across the function.

Who You Are

  • A highly experienced finance leader with a track record in financial accounting and team leadership.
  • A self-starter with a meticulous, analytical, and detail-focused mindset.
  • An effective communicator and strong leader, adept at working with internal teams and external advisors.
  • Passionate about improving finance functions, driving process enhancements, and implementing new solutions.
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Highly organised and deadline-driven, ensuring accuracy and compliance at all times.

What You Bring

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent).
  • Strong expertise in accounting principles (FRS 102 or IFRS, with working knowledge of US GAAP).
  • Good understanding of tax regulations (US tax exposure is a plus).
  • Proven experience in financial leadership roles, ideally within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or wider healthcare sector.
  • Proficiency in financial accounting systems.

So what’s in it for you?

  • Salaries: Our salaries are externally benchmarked annually to ensure you receive compensation that aligns with the market.
  • Generous Holiday Allowance: 25 days of annual leave, an additional 3-day company shutdown at the end of the year, plus bank holidays. More time for you to unwind and enjoy.
  • Progression – We’ve got a straightforward and open progression framework that lets you easily see your strengths and areas where you can improve. With this knowledge, you can set personal goals to help you move up the career ladder.
  • Invest in Your Future: Take advantage of our training and development opportunities. From regular training courses, to access to a wide range of L&D materials. We’re committed to helping you grow and succeed!
  • Hybrid Working, Tailored to You: Choose between working in the office and from home. You can be based anywhere in the UK as long as you can get to any one of our offices regularly. As a guide, we expect people to come to the office 2-3 times a week.
  • Wellbeing: Join a company that values you not just at work but also outside work. We offer a range of benefits, including comprehensive health insurance for you and your family, critical illness coverage, and life insurance. We also offer enhanced paid family leave.
  • Diversity and Inclusion – At Genomics, we wholeheartedly embrace and champion Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) initiatives. We foster an inclusive environment through various means, such as our ‘All in Club,’ a platform where we come together to celebrate and engage in meaningful discussions about cultural diversity.
