We are seeking a Principal Clinician – Genomic Diagnostics to join us on a two-year fixed-term contract or external secondment. In this role, you will provide expert clinical leadership and subject matter expertise across key internal workstreams, while influencing the wider genomics ecosystem at both national and international levels. You will play a pivotal role in maximising our impact for participants, patients, and the NHS through the advancement and implementation of genomic diagnostics.
The primary purpose of this role is to work closely with the Healthcare Genomics Service (HGS), advising the service leadership team and supporting squads and teams in planning, developing, and releasing safe, well-researched rare disease and cancer-related diagnostic products and services.
Everyday responsibilities include:
- Provide clinical leadership and expertise in designing and delivering our services and programs.
- Support the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Scientific Officer, Director of External Affairs, and Director of Ethics in engagements with various advisory committees and the Participants Panel.
- Offer clinical support to the service management team, including handling complex conversations with research participants and managing inquiries, complaints, and clinical incidents.
- Play a key role in providing and coordinating clinical input for clinical safety and risk management systems, working closely with the Clinical Safety Officer.
- Represent Genomics England at national and international conferences, meetings, and working groups.
- Support the Chief Medical Officer and GMS Service Owner in collaborations between Genomics England and NHS England/NHS colleagues.
- Define and advocate for priorities relevant to patients and clinicians with the Executive Leadership Team and colleagues across Genomics England.
- Develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders to explain, drive, and advocate for Genomics England initiatives and priorities.
- Provide clinical leadership in evolving research strategy and coordination, and develop processes to support research stakeholders.
Qualifications
For this role, we are seeking a proactive and dynamic clinician with extensive experience in the diagnostic application of genomics within the NHS. The ideal candidate will have a background in oncology, rare disease, or another clinical specialty where genomics plays a central role in diagnosis and clinical decision-making, with strong expertise in clinical safety.
This role requires a clinician who is passionate about driving advancements in diagnostic genomics and healthcare informatics, and who has a proven track record in clinical leadership, able to zoom into the detail of our products and processes, and back out into strategic service planning.
Ideally a PhD in genomics or equivalent genomics experience/qualifications.
Salary from: £93,500

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate would be required to be based in our Canary Wharf office 1 day per week.
