Building on the 100,000 Genomes Project, we support the NHS’s world-first national whole genome sequencing service and run the growing National Genomic Research Library, alongside delivering numerous major genomics initiatives. By connecting research and clinical care at national scale, we enable immediate healthcare benefits and advances for the future.

Our mission is to provide the evidence and digital systems so that by 2035 genomics could play a role in up to half of all healthcare interactions, whilst securing the UK’s position as the best place to discover, prove and benefit from genomic innovations. We are accelerating our impact and working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.

Help shape how data is managed across one of the UK's most unique healthcare and genomics organisations. At Genomics England, data is at the heart of everything we do. It supports research, informs clinical decision making and plays a vital role in advancing genomic medicine and transforming healthcare.

As a Senior Data Manager, you’ll use your experience and expertise to confidently lead Data Management across our clinical and research domains, working closely with engineers, analysts, researchers and stakeholders from across the organisation. You’ll bring consistency to the way data is managed, improve the quality of our data assets and help solve the challenges that come with managing complex clinical and research datasets at scale. Alongside this, you’ll influence organisational strategy while remaining actively involved in delivery, helping teams make better use of data with confidence.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead Data Management across clinical and research domains, ensuring data is accurate, trusted and fit for purpose.
  • Develop and embed Data Management standards, governance and best practices across the organisation.
  • Lead data quality initiatives that deliver measurable improvements for the teams using our data.
  • Work alongside engineering, product and research teams to solve complex data challenges and improve the way data is managed.
  • Help shape our Genomic Research Dataset capability, including the processes, tooling and governance needed to curate complex research datasets at scale.
  • Work with research partners and internal teams to improve the quality, consistency and usability of incoming datasets.
  • Support the development of metadata, reference data and data catalogues that improve discoverability and consistency.
  • Shape our Data Management strategy while remaining actively involved in delivery.
  • Ensure Data Management activities align with governance, regulatory and ethical requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in Data Management practices across the organisation.

What we’re looking for:

  • Significant experience in Data Management, Data Governance or similar senior leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of Data Management principles and frameworks such as DAMA DMBOK.
  • Experience establishing or improving Data Governance and Data Quality practices.
  • Experience working with complex, highly regulated or sensitive datasets.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Able to balance strategic thinking with hands on delivery.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working within healthcare, genomics, life sciences or research.
  • Knowledge of clinical datasets, healthcare information standards or medical terminology.
  • Solid experience working with modern data platforms across both on-premises and cloud environments, ideally AWS.
  • Exposure to enterprise data modelling or metadata management.

Being an integral part of such a meaningful mission is extremely rewarding in itself, but in order to support our people, we’re continually improving our benefits package. We pride ourselves on investing in our people and supporting them to achieve their career goals, as well as offering a benefits package including:
