Job purpose
Genomics England’s newly formed Portfolio Management Office aims to provide high quality support and resources to our most critical deliveries while ensuring progress is transparent to our leadership team to enable timely, risk informed decision making across the organisation.
This role will work closely with the Head of Delivery and Governance, the Planning Lead and members of the Delivery Chapter to implement PMO projects across our key priorities: People, Planning, Tools and Assurance.
Job Description
- Lead the rollout of monday.com for managing Programmes and Projects across Genomics England, including drawing up a rollout plan, co-ordinating training, developing and disseminating templates and assessing progress against agreed success criteria.
- Support the Head of Delivery and Governance to assess the existing checkpoint assurance process, gather feedback from stakeholders, identify gaps and develop documentation and processes to address these.
- Work with the Planning Lead to implement regular reporting against the company plan, collating inputs from programme teams across the organisation. Identifying and flagging areas of risk to the Head of Delivery and Governance.
- Review existing PMO processes and procedures (eg Risk Management Policy, Programme Board Guidance) to ensure they are accurate and update to date, co-ordinating updates as required.
- Co-ordinate projects across the Delivery Chapter, ensuring visibility of progress to the Head of Delivery and Governance. Identify new projects to support the aims of the PMO.
- Provide secretariat for meetings and committees as required. Co-ordinate agendas and papers and be responsible for distributing minutes and following up on actions.
- Support priority PMO projects as needed, to facilitate the set up and embedding of the PMO and development of Project Management best practice across the organisation.
- Be an active member of the Delivery Chapter, attending Chapter meetings and working with other Delivery professionals in the organisation to define and disseminate best practice.
Qualifications
Essential: certification in Project Management (eg APM PMQ, PRINCE2), or demonstrable experienced in a similar role. We are also looking for experience of running complex Programmes/Projects.
Desirable: experience of implementing Project Management tooling, ideally monday.com and alsoof government assurance processes.

Blended working model
Genomics England operates a blended working modelas we know our people appreciate the flexibility that hybrid working can bring.We expect most people to come into the office a minimum of 2 times each month.However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that people will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require full time on site attendancee.g., lab teams, reception team.
Our teams and squads have, and will continue to reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum.Our office locations are: Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
