We are a global leader in genomic medicine and research focused on enabling the NHS's national whole genome sequencing service. We are accelerating genomics in cancer care and need a passionate and innovative Genomic Data Scientist to join our Bioinformatics Research Scientific Consulting team. The role involves supporting cancer genomics in an agile, multidisciplinary environment.
Everyday responsibilities include:
- Delivery of high-quality research projects to support ongoing cancer research with external partners.
- Researching scientific literature to identify new approaches to cancer genome analysis.
- Incorporation of whole genome data with complex real‑world datasets, demonstrating domain expertise to further in‑house capabilities.
- Utilising extensive programming and analysis skills, including ML, to enrich Genomics England’s cancer dataset.
- Communicating with and presenting to both internal and external collaborators from a range of backgrounds.
Skills and experience for success:
- Understanding of cancer genomics and expertise in the analysis of cancer genomic datasets.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or R for efficient data processing and analysis.
- Experience working in Nextflow and familiarity with creating containerised software with suitable version control and documentation.
- Ability to evaluate statistical and machine learning techniques, apply them in practical scenarios and interpret results while considering assumptions and limitations.
- Hands‑on experience analysing large real‑world clinical datasets to support translation of genomic science to the clinic.
- Experience working in cross‑functional analytical teams in an academic or industry setting.
Salary from: £55,000
