Genome Therapeutics Ltd (GTx) is seeking a lab-based cell and molecular biologist with experience in preclinical drug discovery to drive the development of our novel anti-cancer therapeutics. The ideal candidate will contribute biological data across GTx’s ongoing projects by applying comprehensive expertise in mechanistic cancer biology to characterise the mode of action (MoA) and pharmacodynamic (PD) biomarker responses of our assets and identifying disease positioning opportunities.
Location: This is an on-site position based at the GTx labs in Cambridge, UK.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and run mechanistic cell biological studies to characterise the MoA of novel compounds and support PD biomarker identification and characterisation.
- Develop and validate patient selection biomarker hypotheses to establish disease positioning opportunities.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Excellent skills in a broad range of cell and molecular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture (cancer and non-cancer cell lines, isogenics), Western blot, immunofluorescence microscopy and/or high throughput/high content imaging, flow cytometry (cell cycle/cell fate), monotherapy and combination viability assays, deployment of siRNA and CRISPR technologies, stable/transient transfection.
- Strong track record of using a range of methods to characterise pharmacological and genetic modulation of cancer pathways, genome stability mechanisms and/or DNA damage response biology.
- Proven experience of delivering impactful high quality data packages related to MoA, PD biomarker identification, translational path, and line of sight.
- Robust understanding of cancer biology.
- Expertise in running cell-based compound-sensitive assays using fluorescence and/or luminescence technologies.
- Identification, validation and optimisation of antibodies for cell-based assays.
- Proficiency in data carpentry, analysis and visualisation.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in an organised and methodical fashion.
- Ability to troubleshoot experiments independently.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Keeping accurate laboratory records.
- High level of IT literacy.
- Flexible approach to change.
- PhD in a life science subject.
- >3 years of experience of small molecule drug discovery in an industrial setting.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Understanding of DNA damage response biology.
- Experience with CRISPR and cell panel screening.
- Experience with a range of therapeutic targeting modalities.
- Experience with genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic interrogation of in vitro and ex vivo samples.
- Experience with developing, troubleshooting and running cell-based assays in 96/384WP formats.
- Proficient in use of compound dispensing equipment.
- Experience managing externalised studies at contract research organisations.
