Role SummaryAs a Senior Network Engineer, you will design, implement, and operate a large-scale Cisco-based global enterprise network across campus, WAN, SD-WAN, wireless, and cloud environments. You’ll lead complex initiatives, ensure production stability, and drive continuous improvement aligned with global architecture standards. This senior-level role requires strong technical depth, sound judgment, and operational ownership. You will mentor engineers, collaborate cross-functionally, and partner with Staff/Principal engineers to evolve the network. This role is remote within the UK and supports a globally distributed environment. Strong professional English is required for daily collaboration across North America, EMEA, and APAC.
Key Responsibilities- WAN, Routing, Switching & Wireless
- Design and operate Cisco SD-WAN architectures (control/data/management planes)
- Implement segmentation (VPNs/VRFs), application-aware routing, and DIA strategies
- Lead WAN-to-SD-WAN migrations
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot:
- BGP (eBGP/iBGP): redistribution, filtering, route-maps, path selection
- OSPF: multi-area, summarization, LSA optimization
- EIGRP (legacy environments)
- Design and operate Cisco Catalyst 9000 (9300/9400/9500)
- Implement L2/L3 features: VLAN/SVI, LACP, Rapid-PVST/MST, storm control
- Perform deep packet-path analysis across network layers
- Develop automation using Ansible and/or Python
- Integrate with Cisco APIs (RESTCONF, NETCONF, SD-WAN APIs)
- Use Catalyst Center (DNAC) for provisioning and assurance
- Leverage telemetry (NetFlow, SNMP, streaming) for visibility
- Partner with Cloud Engineering on hybrid AWS connectivity
- Design HA routing between on-prem, SD-WAN, and AWS (BGP, failover)
- Support WAN transformation and cloud integration initiatives
- Correlate data across platforms to identify systemic issues
- Use SD-WAN, Catalyst Center, and firewall analytics for proactive monitoring
- Validate AI-driven insights using packet-level analysis
- Reduce MTTD/MTTR via telemetry and intelligent monitoring
- Drive adoption of AIOps and improve alerting/observability standards
- Automate repetitive operational tasks aligned with DevOps workflows
- Operate Cisco Firepower NGFW (FMC-managed)
- Troubleshoot ACLs, NAT, IPS, VPNs, and HA configurations
- Analyze packet captures for routing/policy issues
- Design and support 802.1X (wired/wireless) with Cisco ISE:
- Policy sets, profiling, TACACS+, dynamic VLANs
- Work across global teams and time zones
- Participate in design, incident, and operational reviews
- Maintain accurate documentation
- Participate in on-call rotations
- Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and continuous learning
- 6–8 years enterprise network engineering experience
- CCNP certification (required)
- Advanced Cisco networking expertise
- Strong BGP and OSPF design/troubleshooting skills
- Proven Cisco SD-WAN experience
- Hands-on with:
- Cisco Catalyst 9000
- Cisco Catalyst 9800 WLC
- Cisco Firepower NGFW
- Cisco ISE (802.1X)
- CCNP Enterprise Automation (ENAUTO 300-425)
- Experience in 24/7 global support environments
