The Role:
As a Senior Radiotherapy Service Engineer with us, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and support of MRL radiotherapy treatment equipment across all GenesisCare centres. You will provide expert technical support for repairs, upgrades, preventative maintenance, installations, and fault resolution, helping to ensure our patients receive uninterrupted access to world-class cancer treatment. This role will primarily support our MR Linac sites across London, Surrey, Oxford and Leeds (opening Dec 2026) while also providing ad-hoc support to our Elekta treatment sites as required (full training will be provided on Elekta). Due to the national scope of the role, regular travel between GenesisCare centres will be required. Therefore, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with highly advanced radiotherapy technology while acting as a technical expert, mentoring engineers across the team, and contributing to key engineering projects and service improvements.
What You’ll Do:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, emergency corrective maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on radiotherapy treatment equipment across GenesisCare centres.
- Provide telephone, remote, and onsite engineering support, including fault finding and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
- Diagnose and repair complex electronic, RF, HT, vacuum, water, pressurised gas, and mechanical systems down to component and board level.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete all relevant reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Support treatment machines through routine servicing, breakdown response, adjustments, modifications, and repairs.
- Take ownership of complex technical problems and lead investigations in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
- Act as the engineering lead on projects including installations, upgrades, decommissioning, commissioning, and new centre builds.
- Maintain spare parts inventory across treatment sites, ensuring stock is appropriately managed and replacement parts are ordered when required.
- Work closely with equipment manufacturers to build strong relationships and support technical troubleshooting activities.
- Support and mentor Service Engineers and trainees, sharing technical expertise and delivering formal training where required.
- Lead team meetings and supervise day-to-day engineering activities in the absence of the Engineering Services Manager or Deputy Manager.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that enhance service delivery and operational performance.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with manufacturer safety procedures, quality assurance standards, and GenesisCare policies.
- Collaborate effectively with Centre Leaders, Physicists, Radiographers, and wider multidisciplinary teams to support operational excellence.
What You’ll Have:
- Minimum HNC qualification in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience within a relevant service environment.
- Strong experience in equipment maintenance, fault finding, and technical support within a complex engineering environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic systems down to component and board level.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Experience leading technical investigations, projects, or engineering initiatives is desirable.
- Experience mentoring or training engineers or technical staff is advantageous.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to customer service, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Professional and positive approach with strong attention to detail.
- Full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel regularly across GenesisCare treatment centres nationally.
- Completion of relevant technical training courses would be advantageous.
